This game scratches one specific and hard to find itch - League play with character progression. You and X friends can play round robin or knockout tournaments with AI factions added, where your individual squad characters all level up individually, and also progress as a team - they develop skills, wounds or even get beaten to death. It really generates a story for the individual players and the league itself, and lets you have your own community, which is something fading in modern gaming. The AI does unfortunately stop presenting a threat after a few dozen hours of play, When this game is at its peak, it's the best at what it does - which is a fun, chance mitigation wargame.

Prepare yourself because this game is looooong, reeeally long, you can easily go an hour a match up. It’s not hard to get to grips with, but I do recommend the tutorial if you’re starting out. There’s some nice DLC too, but it’s pricey (which you can sort of expect if you’ve ever been into a Warhammer store)
