July 2025
Getting the obvious out of the way, the game is gorgeous, the 90s and early 2000s cartoon vibes and themes are on point, and the animation is so smooth i want to die. The game knows this, so one of the few developments to your gameplay, of which there aren't many, is just adding different animations to your actions (battling, that is). Gameplay wise, the game is focused on puzzle solving, exploring, and some action battling using a couple of acquired tools, treating some of the fights as puzzles too, which ALSO fits the cartoon themes as it reminds me of the licensed cartoon flash games on official sites which were also puzzles most of the time. The characters feel extremely natural too, they interact and talk exactly like kids that age would, I was surprised how fun and on point it was, and how cozy it got due to it. Also it has an entire postgame side-adventure free dlc, which is very generous and perfect since the only thing lacking from the character's interactions was.....more of it. Let's see the negatives though. Exploration is one of the key funtimes of the game, encouraged to look around to find new puzzles or new people to talk to and take pics with, as well as do side quests. Despite that, the character isn't that fast, so there is a LOT and I mean A LOT of idle walking, unfortunately. The puzzle battling gets rather old relatively fast, especially so when the enemies respawn when re-entering an area, which you will be doing lots of due to mentioned exploring. But the worst crime of this game is being completely linear chapter progressive, and never allowing you to load into a chapter during a gameplay. If you missed a side quest or a puzzle or a collectible during a chapter, you cannot return to it once you have finished the chapter. You would have to play the game all over again, giving the game essentially 0 replayability due to how long it is. Also the home menu is like, just some unused art? Dunno what the deal with that is, couldve just made a fun more animated and accurate home menu, I'm sure it wouldn't take that much time and effort for the very first screen players will see that represents the game as a whole. Despite all that, the game's length offers relative depth and definitely plenty of funtime, and it's truly an experience worth the price!

So few reviews for this beautiful little gem is a bloody shame! I do think the combat could have a little more depth, but I think it's fine overall. It doesn't do anything special or innovative gameplay wise, but it's good enough to not hinder my enjoyment of the game in any way. What does set #Blud apart from other games, is it's absolutely gorgeous and fluid animations, reminiscient of classic cartoons with an extra helping of violence for good measure! I was blown away by how many unique sprites and sets of animations even all of the side characters have! But noone tops our main character Becky, who has a real ton of fun little animations for all of her attacks with a bunch of unlockable unique finishers, as well as different animations when she gets hit by different enemies or their attacks. On top of the gameplay animations, it was always a treat whenever I'd get to see another fully animated cutscene, of which there was quite a few as well. I could gush about all these great animations all day long, but I'd just be repeating myself so I'll cut it short here. I'd say, if you look at the screenshots or trailers and think the game looks sick? Go and get it!

The art and sound carry this game, but it's well worth it. The combat is basic and can feel stiff, with weird hit boxes. That being said, I've been having a blast with this game.

early reviews of this game buried it mainly for hitbox issues, bad QOL, and combat repetitiveness. i can report that the first two got mostly patched, and the third is only true for those who don't care about animation (you add cosmetic "finishing moves" throughout the game that keep the combat feeling fresh.) i loved playing #BLUD. hopefully, it will eventually get the attention it deserves.

Pros: *Unique animation. *Funny story. *Satisfying action gameplay. Cons: *To much repetitive battles. *Noticed that sometimes enemy hit boxes are lager than animation. *Few times got lost how to progress story (that just me). *In two free DLC locations enemies didn't die but reset by exiting location fixed that.
