The art and sound carry this game, but it's well worth it. The combat is basic and can feel stiff, with weird hit boxes. That being said, I've been having a blast with this game.

#BLUD is a game I like, but it's a game I wanted to LOVE and it's not quite there for me. This may not surprise you, but this game was originally a pilot for a cartoon before the devs decided to make a video game instead. And while the the animation work is stellar, the video game portion of this video game leaves a lot to be desired. This game can be very dull, there are parts that feel heavily padded, combat has no room for experimentation or self expression and before an update added I-frames to the dodge roll it could be very punishing. Not that it was ever difficult, considering you can carry 35+ full heals and use them from the pause menu. This game might not be getting patched again since Humble Games exploded and fired all it's staff. And even though it's likely to remain in this rather raw state forever, I would still recommend this game to a certain type of person. Hey buddy. Yeah, you. Do love cartoons? Do you REALLY love cartoons? Than this is the game for you pal. There is SO MUCH amazing, stylish animation in this game. For every attack, with every weapon attachment, in eight different directions plus roll attacks! And for every character and all of the bosses and enemies to! There are parts of this game without static backgrounds, where the animation is taking place in front of more animation! There's even a reference to animation pioneer Windsor McKay and his character Gertie the dinosaur. This game can be raw, but it is never lacking for charm or personality. It's a janky Zelda clone under that hood, but it looks like nothing else.

Great game. Glad we're seeing more cartoony indie games (That isn't published by Behemoth) again. This art style is very reminiscent of Dexter's lab which is funny because I swear this studio animated some commercials that aired on Cartoon Network when I was a kid. Also, Becky is super cute.

While I do recommend this game, I only recommend it to fans of early 2000's cartoons. Reasoning being that the game play is fun, but way too simplistic. There's a difference between simple but good versus simple and but unchanging. The runes you get for your weapon don't change your damage output, just your finishers. The tools, pencils, and bombs are the only things that you receive that change how you play, but only by a little. Good game, but nothing great or groundbreaking.

Here are some quick points that I like and dislike of #Blud Pros: 1. Beautiful hand-drawn animation 2. Awesome soundtrack (some great ear worms) 3. Fun and charming characters 4. Intriguing, amusing, and enjoyable writing/story 5. Some fun game-play elements Cons: 1. Awkward hit boxes (For example, falling through a floor near a pit due to the hit box not being accurate to the animation itself) 2. Slightly awkward combat (It gets better with practice, but the hit boxes are just slightly off) Overall, I recommend it, especially if you enjoy 90s Cartoon Network animation. Just approach with caution that the gameplay is not as highly enjoyable as all the other elements. Final Score: 8/10
