At the time, i had never played a game like this before. I knew i liked pixel boyfriends so i decided to give it a shot on a friends recommendation. I went in with zero expectations and left emotionally attached to a sword, so that's that i guess lol. This game is what happens when someone looks at a dating sim and a dungeon crawler and says NOW KISS. The loop is simple but weirdly addictive. You dive into dungeons, fight monsters, level up your weapons, and then those weapons turn into very attractive people who want to hang out and talk about their feelings. It is like if Hades and a dating app had a very emotionally available child. The relationships build pretty quickly, which I love. You are not stuck grinding affection for ten hours just to get someone to acknowledge your existence. Everyone has their own vibe too. Some are sweet, some are intense, some are walking red flags that you will absolutely still try to fix (guilty). Combat is simple but satisfying as well. It is not super deep, but it doesn't need to be. Each weapon type feels different enough to keep things interesting and honestly half the motivation to fight is just unlocking more dialogue and dates. The writing is where it really shines. It's funny and a little awkward on purpose but surprisingly sincere. It leans into that millennial anxiety energy in a way that feels relatable instead of exhausting. Also it deserves credit for handling boundaries and consent in a way that feels natural which is way more rare than it should be btw. The art style is BEAUTIFUL and the character designs are killer. You will have a favorite immediately and you will defend them to the death. You will also ignore obvious warning signs and red flags for that favorite. If I had to complain, I do wish there was just a bit more depth in the dungeon side of things. After a while it can feel a little repetitive. But also I was not here for a hardcore roguelike. I was here to emotionally bond with a broadsword. Overall it is short, weird, and super fun. If you like dating sims and questioning your attraction to inanimate objects, this is worth the cash.

I got this game on a whim because it was on sale and it is SO MUCH FUN! Though the name is slightly misleading, because there are girlfriends and partners in the dunj too haha

I'm not usually into hack n slash but this was fun. The characters and world are bizarre (in the best ways) and entertaining. It was a bit shorter than I expected, but I'm pretty sure I got it on sale long ago. At least 5 hours of my playtime was just me being terrible at this type of game, but once i switched to controller and got the hang of it I had a blast. I liked needing to rotate weapons regularly, it kept things fresh. I would have enjoyed if certain parts of the stories would have gone deeper and others had been less lingered over, and I was a bit disappointed not to get an epilogue, but that's what headcanons are for. The dating dynamic was a bit odd, just a giant messy poly blob of love. Eventually I just decided everyone else must be dating each other too. Silly and fun, I do recommend it.

my one and ONLY complaint is the weirdly strong propaganda that this game pushes towards letting cats free roam. It can severely reduce a cat's lifespan, specially since other free roaming and/or feral cats can be very territorial that's not including cars, other animals, illness/disease, accidents, and cruel humans. Outside of that, which is objectively only a fraction of the game, i really enjoy it. the controls could be a bit tighter, which i hope they fix in newer games. (And I really do want to see another game set in this universe by this team.) But otherwise I've been really satisfied with it. But as a cat owner, the message regarding cats really bothers me quite a bit

PROS: - Mechanics are simple and easy to pick up - The music slaps - The art is charming - The characters are cute and varied - The story is heartfelt - Your character's appearance, name and pronouns can be changed at any time - You can romance multiple characters at the same time without conflict or jealousy if you want to. CONS: - as an Autistic, it wasn't clear enough which options would result in initiating a romance, so I ended up starting relationships that I did not intend to pursue. - if you are romancing a character, there is not always the option to refuse a kiss. (which feels invasive when you romanced them by accident) - You only have one save file per-character, and manual saves can be overwritten by auto-saves, so it's hard to create placeholders to try other routes. (HOT TIP: make a copy of your save file to create a hard save)
