Jesus Christ y'all, playing short little adventures like this gives me so much optimism for the future of indie games. Sure, the whole thing may only take half an hour, but the developer Bastinus Rex definitely maximized what he could within such a limited experience. There is a straightforward linear ending and then a different one that you can get only after beating it, fulfilled by finding cryptic secrets out of the way of the main story. This game's aesthetic is overwhelming. Good visuals and story are at the standard for most successful games, but what especially sticks out in Carimara is the audial design, which I have come to realize is the most important part of making properly unnerving horror. The jibberish language they use in place of voice acting comes across like hallucinations of whispers, croaking, and violent rasps. There is one creature whose presence has this ambient sort of gasping and choked laugh that was exceptionally creepy (with an ugly face, too). The music also played a huge part in setting the foreboding and tragic tone -- cheap MIDI electronics of ominous drones or whimsy melodies reminiscent of older fantasy games. Going by the trailer, I ascertained this was some sort of card battle thing ripping off Inscryption or something, but I was dead wrong. It is a graphic adventure/investigation type process where you play as a mute detective who can only communicate by making cards of things he comes across. Presenting these cards to different interactables/NPCs is really the only gameplay aside from getting around. The end goal basically becomes solving a murder mystery to settle the restless spirit of a ghost in an old lady's basement. In the credits, the developer straight up says that he wants to produce more episodes of this series if this one does well enough, which is why I'm writing this review. With the right amount of resources and support, I fully believe that Carimara has the potential to become a legendary series. If they get to make this a "full game" of five longer episodes like a "Season One" anthology this could be a gothic fantasy's equivalent of Ace Attorney. I know it's five dollars for just a few minutes of basic tasks, but these are the kind of experiences I play video games for, where I can see the idiosyncratic decisions made by a developer with vision and playful passion for a world to immerse ourselves in, like a good ol' hijack of the conscience. Let's reward these artists with their work alright? Give this a shot!

Pros and cons are down below) Check out my video on Carimara here if you want to (I don't reveal the solution): https://youtu.be/X1BM-_wSKlc + : 1. The art style, the sound design, the overall vibe of the game is unique and very captivating. I bought the game because of the vibe and didn't regret it. 2. The mystery. The main story is short and the secret is rather easy to solve but there is more to this game (which I go in depth about in my video). When you finish the game and unlock only half of the achievements, you realize, there is a whole additional story layer that consists solely of secrets. That's how achievements should be done really! Hinting at secrets and making you want to play more. Secrets lead to a whole other ending btw :D - : 1. The game is very short, you'll finish it in around 30 minutes max. The story with all the secret lore will probably take 1 hour or 1.5 hours to complete. So assess the cost / value ratio for yourselves to determine if it's worth it or not to you. (to me it was worth it :D) 2. There is a visual effect constantly present that looks like everything constantly slightly moving in a jerky manner. I personally am not sensitive to that kind of stuff but if you have photo sensitivity or something like that, check carefully if this game is ok for you to play before buying it. I can imagine that effect being unpleasant for some people. Overall: I believe we need more games like this one and Bastinus Rex (the dev) did express the ambition to make a series in this style so I recommend this experience in hopes that more people play it and we get more similar games :D
A tiny masterpiece that leaves you craving answers (and more)
CARIMARA: Beneath the Forlorn Limbs is a short but fascinating story-driven point-and-click adventure that perfectly blends eerie charm with creative gameplay. It’s one of those games that hooks you from the first screen. It's mysterious, melancholic, and beautifully strange. You collect cards that let you interact with your environment in unique ways, uncovering secrets and story threads as you go. The world feels alive in that quiet, unsettling way: every character oozes personality, the French voice acting is great, the art style pulls you straight into its weird beauty, and the soundtrack fits every moment like a glove. It’s dark but not grim, spooky but still cozy: the ideal Halloween mood despite not being Halloween themed at all. The game is bursting with secrets, and the achievements cleverly guide you toward discovering them all. Everything feels intentional and meaningful, down to the quirky achievement names. The story itself is rich and layered, though one of the alternate endings does leave a cliffhanger , but it somehow works within this mysterious world. Sure, it’s short (around an 1h30 for 100%), and the speedrun achievement cuts it close, which demanded me multiple attempts, but for what it offers, it’s perfectly paced. It’s a quick, hauntingly sweet experience that rewards curiosity and attention to detail. Overall, CARIMARA is a little indie gem that feels handcrafted for fans of narrative and visual oddities like BAD END THEATER or Birth . It's short, strange, and full of heart. Exactly what an autumn evening calls for. A very short, atmospheric exploration puzzle game with a hauntingly gorgeous art style and soundtrack, and a very simple, but entertaining gameplay loop. Its story is heartwarming and poignant, and offers interesting secrets if you dig deep enough. The creator expresses the idea of making more episodes such as this, and I, for one, would love to see more. Very much worth the asking price!
