Stilted English Delivery I'm not talking Chinese takeout here, I'm talking about the dialog lines. Voiceover delivery is great, and so is the musical score underlying the game. Easy to listen to for ages. But the lines they got asked to speak are not proper English and they jar the player out of the immersion. Someone opened google translate and spoiled a game that probably took months to build. I wonder if all games titled as horror, somehow get a lower quality bar for dialog and for plotline somehow? Once Alive is not really a horror game though, there are no jump scares and although the environmental sounds are not perfect, the backing soundtrack is enjoyable and carries the game. The plot is decent, not unique, but done so well you never do know what happens next. GPU Smelter OK, my biggest graphics gripe is not that the game hammers your GPU, but that it has NO FOV setting. I felt a bit woozy after an hour, it's not a long game either so you don't need to take many breaks to complete it. It is a pretty looking game and uses atmospheric effects and lighting very well and at the right points. Now that the less polished bits of the game are noted, let's move on to what worked. Good walking Sim Once Alive, is a strange title, and I hope I'm not spoiling it, but as walking sim's go, a lot of people in this one die. I like even how the team mascot even gets a cameo appearance in the game. A lot of thought did go into many aspects of the game, but a few, in my opinion fell short. It is firstly a very short game, I suspect you could speed run it in about 90 minutes. Walk and running speeds work really well. Like all walking sims Once Alive has very basic controls, but I was diss-appointed when at one point there is a QTE, and then another one where you have to run. But then the QTE mechanic never gets re-used again! So it feels as if some sections of the game plot-line did get rushed through to a release deadline, and the flat environmental soundscape was not the only rushed part. Small character animations that would have made the game feel realistic, like cutting a wire fence, or joining some wires were left out entirely too. The game reminded me firstly of the Covid-19 pandemic and a game that tops the walking sims of similar plot type: Everyone's gone to the Rapture. Once Alive is however more limiting, you have one path to follow no backtracking and no exploring. Every so often a low wall stops you progressing. It is annoying, but you can often at that point see where the bridge or door you need is. Usually a lamp or something beckons you onwards to the next findable item, there is no hunting for hidden objects, Once Alive thankfully never frustrates as a result. Railway Tracks The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is another game I was reminded of, some scenes were definitely inspired by Ethan Carter. Once Alive somehow fails to really feel as very dark though, and I always felt like I was on a railway track. One final thing about the game I did like is the regular autosaving, taking one more interaction mechanic out of the way to letting you just get on with playing. Not worth the asking price, but the fresh plot-line and it's evenly paced delivery and music are worth the time to complete the game. If you did enjoy this slightly scary walking sim, you will want to check out these too https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41773079-EmpathyGames/list/90678

Played through this game and finished it twice. It's a pretty decent walking game as you walk to hautville and around the village trying to find clues as to the villahgers going missing and what happened to them. Find notes and by the end bust the mystery open as you dsicover what happened. There is some stutter to this game but it's not as bad as a lot of games I have played, so this is smooth most of the time. The cutscenes are oretty good too. Voice acting is by real people and very well done especially the voice of Father Monroe. Very short game however as this can be finished in 2-3 hours. Run speed is a little slow so you won't be zooming around the village. 2-3 hour game at least depending on if you are trying to find all achievements or not. Most likely you'll finish this game in a day if you play in the morning and again later in the day as it's a short game but still decent enough. The atmosphere is pretty good. I liked the dark clouds as you walk to Haustville and around the village. Not sure why Survival is in the game tags. There is no combat or survival to this game, maybe there is 1 scene where you run from crows, but that's about it, OH and you have to make sure the TRAPd oesn't get you ether and that's it. The rest of the game is a relaxing walk around reading notes and going through houses. Give this game a play if you haven't played it. 8/10 final rating.

Short (2-3h) and linear. Do not expect a high-end polished game. Story is engaging and interesting. Gameplay is walking from place to place revealing the story. I would only buy it on a significant discount. For a solo indie developer it is impressive.

The game offers 2-3 hrs of game time (maybe less if you rush, what's not recommendable since this game is a walking-sim). For 12€ absolutely not recommendable, it has very nice views, there's a story that you can quickly follow unlike the main character. I bought it for 2€ on steam on sale, therefore thumbs up.
