I spent over 6 hours just collecting apples. if the apple game was the only mini game in this I would have been completely satisfied with the purchase.

Cauldron is an interesting little package. The general gimmick is the interplay between the minigames and RPG battles; playing the minigames gets you resources to exchange for skill points for your party; you then clear enemies from parts of the map to find new characters/games/upgrades and so forth. There's decent variety in the games; the apple catching minigame evolves over time into a bullet hell shooter; there's a fishing game similar to Link's Awakening, a tile based mining game, a Vampire Survivors-like, and an ice breaking puzzle game. As you clear the base game, you unlock new modes with different modifiers, like one where all enemy groups are doubled up in size, a pacifist mode where you literally can't fight any enemies and have to bribe everyone with your minigame resources, and so on. It's a compelling time sink (particularly as something you poke at while watching videos/streams/etc), and I put a lot of hours into it in fairly short time; I don't know if it's a great game, but it's got a solid gameplay loop if you like incremental games. I think the main issue I have with Cauldron is that the extra modes very rapidly evolve into a point where outside of some very specific optimizations you might want to do, you're probably better off just tweaking the minigame difficulties upward and letting the game auto-play them for you as a mostly hands-off experience. It didn't bother me too much as someone who generally has some sort of idle/incremental game I've got on the side, but when the elevator pitch is "Play minigames to support the RPG!" it feeling very quickly like not playing the minigames being largely optimal is kind of at cross-purposes to itself. Still, the aesthetic is cute and it's cheap, so it's worth a look if you like incremental games.

Cauldron features 5 minigames that evolve as you play, making it very easy to continue playing. While it is an idle game in the end, your resource generation is tied to your performance in these games. This provides incentive to continuously aim for ever higher scores rather than simply waiting for bars to fill. The game also features turn based combat that I had very little interest in. Thankfully, there is an auto-battle option in which your party will act according to behaviours you define outside of combat. While the core of each minigame is similar to those you'll find elsewhere, they do have their own twists. For example, the attacks in the horde survival game resemble those found in Vampire Survivors, but the weapon that rotates around the player has durability and will shatter, enemies will merge to become both stronger and more valuable, there is an exit you need to find for bonuses, and you acquire weapons by picking up party members scattered across the map rather than just by collecting gems. There are little differences, but it still plays like many other modern horde survival games. At least it does until you unlock the "blorbs" in the post-game at which point the focus of the game becomes all about getting the most value out of your blorbs. Even before you get to the post-game there are upgrades that completely change how the minigames work which keeps them fresh and exciting. Halfway through the main game you will unlock a set of challenge modes such as one where you don't fight and must bribe your way past every enemy. Every time you clear a new mode you will unlock a new modifier for every minigame. All of these allow you to accrue points faster making subsequent playthroughs go smoother. Some completely change how the game is played which helps keep things from getting stale. If you do get tired of the minigames, this is an idle game so you can rely on passive income and the less than ideal scores from an unlockable auto-mode. Cauldron does have a story, but it's definitely not the focus of the game and isn't especially compelling. Most of what little dialogue is there leans into humour. It does have some pretty decent jokes, but not enough to be main selling point. Cauldron is an idle game with some really fun minigames that will keep you from actually being idle. It doesn't have a ton of content, but what is there grows as you progress which not only keeps it from getting stale but also makes it exciting to keep going and see what you can do with the new upgrades. The game doesn't have much to offer for those seeking a strong narrative, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fun little time wasters.

I feel like I just had a crack-fueled fever dream for the past week or so. I genuinely don't know how or why this game grabbed me the way that it did. I don't want my time back though, it was definitely fun.
