Sept. 2025
Choice of Life: Middle Ages by Blazing Planet Studio is an intriguing blend of narrative-driven gameplay and strategic decision-making set against the backdrop of a richly imagined medieval world. Rather than focusing on action or complex mechanics, this game leans heavily into the experience of making choices that shape your character’s fate and the broader political and social landscape of the era. It invites players to immerse themselves in a world filled with intrigue, power struggles, and moral dilemmas, where every decision can lead to vastly different consequences. The core of the gameplay revolves around a card-based system where each card represents a situation or event, and players must select between two options, both of which influence the direction of the story and the state of your realm. The game’s design is straightforward but effective, offering a clear and accessible way to engage with complex narrative branches. As players progress, they encounter various scenarios, including political alliances, betrayals, battles, and mystical occurrences that reflect the superstitions and realities of medieval life. This card-based structure encourages repeated playthroughs, as different choices unlock new paths and outcomes, allowing players to experiment with alternate decisions and strategies. The balance between chance and choice creates a dynamic storytelling experience where no two runs feel identical. This design choice fosters a strong sense of player agency and replayability, appealing especially to fans of interactive fiction and decision-centric games. Visually, Choice of Life: Middle Ages opts for a minimalist 2D aesthetic that complements its focus on narrative and strategy rather than flashy graphics. The character portraits and backgrounds are simple but well-crafted, effectively conveying the medieval atmosphere without overwhelming the player. This minimalism also helps maintain clarity during gameplay, ensuring that the focus remains on the decisions at hand rather than on unnecessary visual distractions. While it may not impress with high-end visuals or animations, the art style suits the game’s tone and enhances the storytelling by keeping the player’s attention firmly on the evolving plot. One of the standout features of the game is its narrative depth. The writing captures the complexities of medieval politics, social hierarchies, and cultural beliefs with nuance and attention to detail. Players can choose to align themselves with different factions, engage in power struggles, or pursue personal goals that affect their standing and influence. The branching storylines cover a wide range of themes, including loyalty, ambition, survival, and morality, providing a rich tapestry of medieval life that feels authentic and compelling. While the game doesn’t offer a traditional linear story, its multiple endings and diverse scenarios give it a breadth that encourages exploration and strategic thinking. Despite these strengths, the game’s simplicity can sometimes work against it. The card mechanics, while effective, can feel repetitive over time, especially during longer play sessions. Some players might find that the decisions, although impactful, follow predictable patterns, limiting the sense of surprise or discovery in later stages. Additionally, the game’s pacing can occasionally drag as the options narrow or scenarios repeat, which may reduce engagement for players seeking faster or more varied gameplay loops. Furthermore, while the narrative branches are broad, some storylines offer less freedom than others, and the overall impact on the world can feel somewhat contained within the immediate scope of your character’s journey. From a technical standpoint, Choice of Life: Middle Ages runs smoothly across a wide range of hardware, including portable devices like the Steam Deck. Its modest system requirements make it accessible to many players, and the user interface is clean and intuitive, allowing for easy navigation through choices and menus. The absence of technical issues or bugs adds to the polished feel of the experience, letting players focus fully on the strategic and narrative elements without distraction. In conclusion, Choice of Life: Middle Ages offers a thoughtfully crafted experience for players who enjoy story-rich games centered around decision-making and strategic planning. It successfully evokes the atmosphere of medieval times through its writing, setting, and gameplay mechanics. While it may not satisfy those looking for complex systems, detailed graphics, or action-oriented gameplay, it shines as an interactive narrative that rewards patience, exploration, and careful thought. The game’s replayability, combined with its unique card-based approach to storytelling, makes it a compelling choice for anyone interested in the challenges and intrigues of medieval life through the lens of choice and consequence. A bit grindy for achievement hunting (took me over 3 hours). Other than that, it's a solid choose-your-own-adventure game with a medieval fantasy setting.

I finished the game yesterday, i played it in two session and it was good. i rate it 7.9/10 cause it felt too short and im not a very fan of the art style, felt so simple. i finished the game after beating the demon and help the prince and become the local hero. might wanna visit this game again to get another way and ending, also there are still 2 section i haven't unlock.

A game where you never know what outcome you are going to get and... There are oh so many titles to go for. (24... I believe). Also... Some events will vary on your journey... So you might die the first time and live the next. Life's a gamble after all. Otherwise it's silly fun. Good for an evening or two. If you are an Achievement Hunter though... Have fun getting all the titles + dying 30 times. Heh heh. Thanks you for the goodness! :D :>
