I'm giving this mostly in response to the recent bout of negative reviews. Those almost made me not pick up the game, even after loving the first, so I want to give my thoughts on where those players are coming from. Essentially, it comes down to the fact that Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall has a longer story arc than the first one. This means that the game takes longer to get going, and many of the complaints apply early in game, before the setting and situation are really established. Yes, some of the early quests are silly, but stick with it, and it will get back to the feel of the first game. I also think it's isn't helped that the controls are not set up well as a sequel; enough has changed that more explanation early on was needed, but I don't think the devs realised that. I went in assuming it would be the same controls I know well and little things, like buttons being unlabelled, made it frustrating initially because it wasn't the same system. Paired with the upgraded graphics (which are neat but not necessary), for fans of the first game, early on this game might feel like a disappointment that over-invested in graphical upgrades in place of creating an engaging narrative. But that is only at first. If you stick with it, the controls become second-nature, the story comes together, and the characters are charming and engaging; essentially, it comes to feel like a worthy successor to the first.

The continuation of King Eryk's story with his kingdom's struggles. After the events of the first game, he received a letter from his old friend, whose homeland is being attacked and seeks your aid. As usual, your wife, Queen Aurelea. Once you accept the request, you'll also be responsible for caring for your friend's child, who is close to your daughter's age. The events are heavy, and you'll learn that your youngest child, the heir of the throne, is not getting any better, causing you to start looking for a remedy for him and seeking the best doctors and searching for rare ingredients for his medicine. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3633333674 In this game, you'll not only play as Eryk, but also as his wife, the queen. You can shape her personality and make her either a good queen or a fierce one. All the choices matter and affect the characters' relationship, leading to a good or bad ending. You can even hire agents to help you through the invasions, and if you help them with their side quests, they'll be extra helpful and listen to you. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3640091948 The graphics and artwork are a step up from the previous game. I liked it so much, as well as the soundtracks. The journal is helpful; you read it from your advisor's perspective on each interaction and what to do next. The map is huge, and the quests there are fun to run. You need resources to run them, and you could get those by the end of each week by exchanging Prosperity or happiness. You can also get them by collecting taxes. And like the previous game, there is no actual voice acting, just humming and sounds for each character. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3633333649 The main thing you need to work on is your people's happiness, which you can work on through the petitioners; however, be careful, there are many scammers around who have their eyes on the little money you still have. Pros: +Enjoyable story with multiple endings. +Excellent writing. +Beautiful soundtracks. +Outstanding pixel art. +Reply value. +Manual save (In the council room) +Steam achievements. Cons: +Most of the events are linear. The ending clearly sets up a new game, and I can't wait to play it. I enjoyed this so much, though I wished for a better happy ending. Well, we are playing as King Eryk and his family, so naturally, everything around them is a disaster. Very tentative recommend. It's 6/10, and while very interesting (far more so than the first game), the game suffers from three EXTREME issues. The Meters, Progression Reset, and Petitioners. The Meters: While the original had an end of turn income, that has been replaced with a Prosperity meter that fills as you complete petitioners tasks. This meter can then be converted into gold or supplies. Happiness is back but...it's weird. It's very hard to make the populous happy, as happiness is heavily dicated by scammers. If you catch them, your happiness goes up, if you fall for them, it goes down. Helping people with problems, doesn't affect happiness, but refusing them lowers happiness. Happiness can be used to Demand additional resources, but it's a very last ditch thing since if you lose all your Happiness, it's game over. Also every meter is capped, so doing excessively well is pointless, which leads into the second point. Progression Reset: Due the nature of the story, you'll find yourself being reset to a neutral point at the start of every chapter. While this prevents the classic Death Spiral where you fall behind and are never able to catch up, you never really get to feel that what you are doing matters. In the original you can invest in certain businesses and amentities for bonuses (often a fairly heavy upfront cost), but while they do exist in this game, they don't transfer over. A good strategy or well managed resources ultimately means very little once you are capable of clearing the challenges of the act. A good solution would be to give a small bonus to the next Act based on how well you completed your objectives. It also doesn't help that the time frame for most things is VERY short, so if you explore in the wrong direction, you are very much screwed. Petitioners: This is really big one. While the first game had gold, supplies, and generals that could be used to complete tasks, this game changes that to have each problem requiring a certain number of points in a particular category (or catergories on occasion) to pass. This includes (but is not limited to): Food, Tools, Weather, Illness, Animal, Labour, Combat, and a bunch of others. Generals are very useful as most of these they can address to varying degrees with some being specialised for certain tasks. Additionally, generals can now be used multiple times (as long as they have AP from being paid), so paying your generals is VITAL (not much else to do with that gold). You can also collect items while exploring the map, buying them from merchants, or rewards from events. This is where things start to fall apart. The petitioners are random, and you might find that you are getting bombarded with a particular type excessively, so all those Food and Illness and Tool items just never get used, and you don't get to bring them along. It also doesn't help that some request are....questionable. A petitioner might be concered about strange dolls that are appearing and people are getting sick. Sounds like a job for the Witch or Illness, but only Food will work. Some problems just...seem like scams but they aren't, Tempermental chickens, slightly too loud neighbour, a "school" to teach fighting, a startup business with no prospects, a person so clumsy that every issue is caused by their own incompetence but just needs some food to "make amends". But the worst is when you have to do a certain thing for a quest, and the option to complete just never comes up because you are just waiting for something that never arrives. Conclusion: It's an interesting sequel that refines a lot of the rough edges and tries new things to various results. - The generals feels far more useful and navigating to different parts of the castle is far easier. - The rewards feel far less useful and doing well feels less impactful. - The petitioners are both more interesting, and far more frustrating as you can't even just give gold and say "Go hire an expert". - People don't remember your successes, only your failures.

After seeing some of the reviews, I was hesitant to buy this game, but I honestly don't understand the negative reviews saying this is disappointing. It turns out that this game is even better than the first one. I love that it's much longer and has a lot more depth. I love that we get to know the Queen and her children better, and that there are so many side quests with the agents. I truly enjoyed every bit of it. Hopefully, they will continue this story! If not, I'd love to see another game set in a similar world or with similar gameplay.

The game is good and enjoyable, but it fails to capture the magic of the original 'yes your grace' and I find myself dissapointed. The original 'Yes, your grace' had a very tight plot that was just predictable enough that it felt familiar, and unpredictable events were still foreshadowed enough that on second playthroughs you could see where they were coming from. Unfortunately snowfall contains far too many unpredictable and unexplicable events. The plotting is not concise and clean, and the ending is kinda a mess that resolves very little. It feels like they chopped off the game part way through and like there was supposed, originally, to be another chapter. That being said: This game is not bad. The mechanics are fun, though I feel like the aditonal mechanical complexity came at the cost of clarity. In yes your grace every choice is yes or no, now it's no, yes-sorta, yes and yes-lots and it's not clear what's actually being done based on the mechanical representation. Something was lost in the abstraction which cost the game in storytelling. Once more: Fun game. Enjoyable. Not bad at all. The only reason I'm disapointed is because I'm comparing it to a GREAT game.
