Soft spoilers ahead (not for story, but for game features) I would like to start with how much I liked the game. Most of it was very enjoyable and fun. Game loop is engaging. Cutscenes serve a purpose if you enjoy a slow paced narrative. Developers give you enough tools to manage your team and their quirks make the game challenging and fun. Even with all the nice features, systems, game mechanics and quality of life stuff that developers worked on, there's some blind spots that are somewhat breaking the experience. GO BACK TO LILLY (essentially losing loyalty) doesn't seem to be a good option for you ever, it's just a gimmick. Getting rid of the officers can rarely make sense because the game's difficulty can snowball very fast if you don't have a solid start and lose too many officers early on. Using the same officer multiple times during a call doesn't increase how many EXP they get, instead they always get the same, and the officer that was used last gets a bit more, but always the same. That oversight negates how important officers help is during the first several actions of a call. A lot of the officers passive abilities during assault missions can't compare to a few of them. Appointing officers for assault before the assault day makes no sense, the health doesn't even regenerate, you can't get them a massage or use them in day to day work. They're unavailable but don't regenerate HP, which feels bad. Your decisions made from noticing details can matter very much, but by not saving the game mid work day, the game encourages you to exit to main menu and cheese your way out of a bad decision, but also removes all the progress when you can't continue playing the game unless you keep it open. So the decision making either feels cheap or wasted. There's also a lot of choices you make in this game that don't really matter. The only thing that matters is successfully playing the game loop, but the story stays the same. For a narrative heavy game, the text on some investigations could be a bit larger. The music that starts at the beginning of the shift just ends, it doesn't loop, there isn't any music after it ends and, for me, that honestly feels weird. I've seen a lot of people praising voice acting, but for me it feels inconsistent in quality. Overall an entertaining and engaging game with some features being there for the sake of it. I would recommend this game to those who like playing through a story with somewhat challenging team management and changing gimmicks.

This Is the Police 2 lets you run a precinct, but the story is a total disaster—awful voice acting, flat and clichéd characters, and every bad cop trope imaginable. Skip the cutscenes—your officers are the only drama worth paying attention to.

I love this game to pieces, but it's far from perfect. While I really want more people to try it, it has a lot of MAJOR issues you need to know before starting: 1. Intro. My god, the intro. It's like a whole hour of cutscenes without any meaningful gameplay when you start the game. Can't blame people for getting bored of it and dropping the game right away. 2. The game's story hits way less if you didn't finish the first game. It relies heavily on you already knowing characters and being emotionally invested in them. So if you never played the first game, don't start with the second. The game does have a little recap of the first game in the beginning, but it's insufficient. 3. Dialogue. It is really drawn out; like two sentences of information get turned into 20 minutes of cutscene when characters keep on and on and on blabbering about some nonsense. And if you skip them, the story just falls apart. There is no good way to mitigate it; you'll just have to bear with it. 4. Tactical missions. They are good, but they are pretty lengthy, a bit simplistic, and don't clash too well with dispatching. If you don't like both games like TITP1 and XCOM, you won't have a good time with this one. 5. Difficulty. Game balance is very prone to snowballing. If you do good at the start, the game will only keep getting easier. If you don't, the game will keep kicking you while you are down until you reload an earlier save and start again. Also, tactical missions are either very easy (like bathhouse) or incredibly hard (like circus), with no in-between. Sounds really negative, right? Yeah... But this game's story, music, presentation, dispatching, and visual style are so good and unique, they make all these issues pale in comparison. It is a really good game, one of my all-time favorites, but it's for a very specific taste (and for people with a lot of patience for its quirks). If, even after all that criticism, it still sounds like your type of game, you're in for a very good time.

I read some of the reviews saying the story wasn't good and the XCOM phases were not good. I wanted to add my opinion that I actually thought the story was good and that I enjoyed the XCOM phase even if they were cruelly missing saves. Overall I think I enjoyed this sequel more than the 1st one but it's hard to say because I played it so long ago. CONS - Even if much better than the first one, I feel like the game isn't very respectful of your time. I definitely had something to occupy my hands on the side during the very long cutscenes. The lack of manual or intermediary saving makes this even worse. I understand it's a choice to discourage save scumming but not being able to interrupt for sessions that long without losing progress is just silly. - I feel bad but I didn't enjoy some of the voice acting. I can tell there was great care in the sound design and voices but some lines came out a bit off and made me really hate about all the female characters, really. Might be how these characters were written as well. - You have zero agency in the story outcome. t's like watching a movie with gameplay in between. It would have been nice if it was less disjointed. It doesn't really feel like you're playing as Jack but more like watching him. - Some aspects of the game are too hidden. I didn't understand why the selling prices were 5x higher at some point and I was glad that I found out but if I had not seen it, the game would have been impossibly hard. Some choices are completely obscure and you are heavily punished for making them sometimes. - I can't really tell why but the investigations phases were a miss for me. I got bored of reading so much useless text. PROS - The dispatching gameplay is quite fun, the little stories are varied enough and I enjoyed trying to build up my police staff and send them judiciously on missions. The outcomes felt less arbitrarily punishing than in the first one. - It looks like I'm in the minority but I enjoyed the tactical phases. I can understand that if you're more into the narrative aspect of this game, you would not necessarily be into XCOM stuff. After reading all the negative reviews, I was actually pleasantly surprised. - The story and how the game ended left me on a much better note than the first game. It felt cathartic, especially in contrast with the despair and pointlessness I got from the first game. - Seeing that Kevin Penkins is a real person and actually composed music for the game really made my day!

I mean. It's a great and faithful descendant of the previous game but they've chopped down on the length of the story and inserted cutscenes that seem to have the length of a prime Kojima game and the setting of an extremely casual conversation. So maybe stay away from this sequel. Still, an enjoyable story that carries on the adventures of Duke Nukem that you absolutely have to buy on sale if you're willing to go out on a punt!
