From the moment we are born, we are already destined to suffer and die. This might be one of my favorite indie horror games so far, somehow it scratched that deep Silent Hill itch while delicately balancing existentialism and nihilism beneath its surface. As I stepped into this game I was immediately drawn in by how serene and ethereal everything looks, but as you progress, the world decays, becoming darker, more corrupted and increasingly unsettling as you're walking through someone's fragmented memories or trauma. This slow descent into psychological chaos is exactly what I love in horror games, and honestly, I haven’t come across many that manage this kind of horror well. Visually, the models and animations are... well, a bit rough around the edges. But oddly enough, that kind of works in the game's favor and the lo-fi lolita aesthetic adds to the eerie, dreamlike vibe. Philosophically, it confronts us with the reality of how some tragedies seem inevitable despite our efforts. How do we find meaning and purpose when fate feels pre determined? How do we respond to suffering when it is constant? The game doesn’t offer easy answers but invites players to wrestle with these existential dilemmas in a deep personal way. Overall, it's not a polished AAA title and leans a bit into the walking sim, but it's genuinely haunting in a way that's hard to find these days. If you're craving that psychological horror that lingers and makes you feel unsettled, this game is definitely worth your time.

Cineris Somnia is a slow, quiet walking sim that trades action for atmosphere — and it’s absolutely worth it. Every forgotten object and crumbling hallway whispers of grief, loss, and memories left behind. I found myself in tears more than once, not because the game pushed me to feel something, but because its quiet beauty and sorrow crept in without warning. It’s haunting, delicate, and lingers long after it ends.

Not for all tastes, but those who do take to it will love it. It's slow, janky and obtuse but past all that lies a very atmospheric and melancholic exercise in storytelling. It's a bit hard to tell at a glance but this game does get darker and bloodier than its surface suggests and its emotional beats can hit pretty hard. But be prepared for a lot of meandering back-and-forth for the sake of those beats, save for one section (my personal favorite) that does feature the very occasional Clock Tower-esque chase sequence. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to bask in a solemn ambience for a few hours, just be mindful of the concessions that come with it.

being 5.1 hours into the game and having finished the rose garden chapter, i can already say this is by far my favorite horror game right next to Alice Madness Returns. The way the story is told, the pacing, the atmosphere, the soundtrack and the general aesthetic of the game is just chef's kiss. Although i don't have much experience with walking sim games, there was never a moment where i felt bored. I was always on edge, left wondering if i was ever going to get jumpscared as the tension kept building up, the story slowly getting darker and darker. Such an amazing experience so far, therefore i'm already giving this game ♡♡♡♡♡/♡♡♡♡♡ hearts ! update: i finished the game. PEAK.

CINERIS SOMNIA is a gorgeous exploration game with elements of horror and mystery. I absolutely loved every minute of playing this, and am so happy I discovered it! It places you in lonely, desolate settings with surreal undertones as you guide each character through discovery and acceptance. I really like that the character you play as is not necessarily the *main* character, but merely a tool used to tell each girls' story as you progress. Each chapter has a moving story that gradually expands as you explore each area. My favorite chapter in particular is Chapter 2 (Ophelia's story), as it introduces classic horror game mechanics-it puts me very much in the mind of Haunting Ground! The atmosphere and audio is superbly done (I just wish the beautiful music played more often!) and the voice acting is fantastic. Overall, this is an amazing experience; as long as you give it a chance! I notice that the negative reviews talk about two things, one being that the exploration/environment is "boring". Firstly, the chapter that you start out in (outside of the prologue) is a sanitarium. It's supposed to look sterile/bland, in stark comparison to the main character's color scheme. But, if you'd give the game more time, the environment changes as you progress through the story-it's supposed to be immersive and take time; this isn't a game you finish in one sitting. This takes me to the other point of it being easy to get lost and having to use a walkthrough-this simply isn't the case if you pay attention to the objectives in your journal. They very plainly show a picture of the room you are meant to go to; this game requires observing your surroundings and having good memory. Cineris somnia sets its objectives up so that you do this very thing~ you go back and forth between rooms so that you can start to map the locations out in your mind, rather than having to pull up the game map every five minutes. I think if you look at this game as an experience, rather than a puzzle game that has to have set rules, you'll enjoy it a lot more. It's most certainly worth the money and more, and I very much recommend this to anybody that has a soft spot for PS2 era games~ (Also, a tip: be sure to save often!)
