Truly the crown jewel of visual novels. CLANNAD was a life-changing experience for me. Admittedly, I played it over the span of many years, because I didn't want it to end so soon. Sometimes, I felt like Tomoya going through the passage of time. From the haunting opening of "I hate this town" to the touching True End, it really is a ride. For fans of the anime, I strongly recommend playing this, as you get so much more content that the anime just wasn't able to cover. You get to accompany Tomoya as everything slowly unfolds. The characters, from the hilarious Sunohara to the gentle Nagisa, as well as everyone in between, still touch my heart. Even seemingly minor characters get their time to shine, contributing to the themes of the work. The music is of extremely high quality, many of which bring me emotions from the first note. The story itself has so much depth that I would not mind re-reading the routes. CLANNAD is life.

This is not only a story, but a life lesson — what it means to grow up, what it means to love, and to be loved. It's a tale that really moves your heart if you think about it, and it's so well done that my heart ached when I finished it. I can't recommend this visual novel enough. Don’t go for "the grind" because things take time; go at your own pace, because the hill goes on. Now I can admit, i just plain love Clannad.
