TLDR: 6.5/10 A charming little puzzle platformer that is just the right length for it's level of quality. Actual Review (No Spoilers) Contrast has it's issues and can get boring in parts, but overall it's a pretty good game worth a playthrough. The artsyle and presentation are really cool, and honestly makes the story a lot more interesting to engage with. The gameplay consists of shifting between 3D and 2D platforming, using shadows and light. It's a really unique and creative system that makes you think outside your traditional platforming brain. The game is pretty easy, aside from a few late game sections that make sense within the game, but are really unintuitive and could've used some proper mechanical introduction. The story is actually quite good for a game of this caliber, however the main character has some pretty stilted line delivery, and a lot of writing that feels like it's just there to explain stuff to the player. The story is also directly used as a gameplay element, which is a really cool way of tying the two together and makes the story feel more present. There are a LOT of things about the plot and world that are just never explained however. The short length of the game really limits this. Going for 100% is both easy and serves the story which is always a nice bonus motivation. There's a lot of "I wonder what happens if I do this" type achievements, which I always appreciate. And the light collectables hunt will come naturally as there aren't a lot and most are easily found. Definitely recommend at least one playthrough. It's uniqueness is it's strongest attribute. 6.5/10

Contrast is a short cute game about a young girl Didi on a mission of saving her parent's relationship. Didi isn't alone on this hard task though as she can always rely on her dear imaginary friend Dawn. Gameplay-wise it's a puzzle platformer where you need to progress by switching from normal 3D to a shadow 2D world. All you need to do is manipulate the light source in the 3D world to create a path from shadows through which you can overcome obstacles or solve different puzzles. The shifting mechanic is rather clever and fun although it can be a little bit frustrating in some moments thanks to clunky movement/camera and you can get forcefully expelled from the shadow realm as a result. The achievements are pretty straightforward and mostly tied to story progression. Any missed collectible can be picked up afterward without the need to collect everything again. The graphics are very nice, and the mood of the 1920s and the Noir theme is dripping from it. In the whole game, we can fully see only Didi and Dawn, others are portrayed by their shadows which creates a peculiar atmosphere. The voice acting is done very well, with the only exception being Dawn who doesn't speak nor show any kind of emotions - she is just an unbiased helper. The soundtrack is beautiful and the main song is simply exceptional. The game isn't anyhow long and has a good pace. It has a surprisingly serious story that is portrayed through children's eyes. The ending feels slightly abrupt and points to a possible sequel - which would be great, but I don't think it's gonna happen, shame as it's a really enjoyable game and I can safely recommend it.

Contrast has great art and an amazing soundtrack, as well as a straightforward plot with a gameplay featuring some creative puzzles. Simply put, if you like games such as Psychonauts, Voodoo Vince and Grim Fandango, this is a good call. Just make sure you play using a Mouse and Keyboard instead of a Gamepad — there's something weird going up with the player movement that halves the jump height when you're using one.

It's a good puzzle game using light and shadows. Don't expect an action packed game. This game is mostly for the "sit down"/casual gamer. I enjoyed it. All in all it is a charming game and well worth playing.

This game is kind of a shooting star. It's short, sweet, beautiful, and I give mad props to the studio. The game clocks in at around 4 hours, and honestly I have to say that's worth the price tag to me because this title does so many things very well. Contrast is a puzzle platformer that shifts between 2D and 3D platforming. You solve puzzles to advance the narrative, and the level design is minimal/simple in a good way. It's not perfect - I'm relatively good at puzzles and games, and I found myself stuck at a couple points, so the game would benefit from a little more visual feedback for what you can do or where you are supposed to go. The shadow shifting mechanic is incredibly well done. The voice acting is great. The art style fits the vibe of the game, and I was shocked at the subjects the narrative explores in what appears to be a cute kids game. I won't give anything away, but there's some depth there. The music is great too! The game overall is a great experience. If you think the price is high for a short indie game, keep in mind it's 4 hours of interactive entertainment, and the gameplay concept presented here is original and fun. Definitely worth it, sale or no sale.
