Okay so I literally just started this. I'm not even that far I think. At first I was like oh great another super hard pixel game where I die every 5 seconds, which... yeah, I did. A lot. But once you get the drone thing it gets really cool. Didn't expect the invisible monsters mechanic. I was walking around like why can I hear something breathing and then I turned on my drone light and this massive shadow thing was right in front of me. Actually scared me lol. Combat is still kicking my ass a bit. I'm mostly just spamming dodge and shooting but I'm starting to figure out the parry timing. When you pull it off it feels so satisfying though. Atmosphere is awesome, super dark and creepy but in a cool sci-fi way. You can tell it's an indie game in some places but the art is honestly great. Still getting lost a lot, not really sure where I'm supposed to go half the time but I'm just exploring and it seems to work out. Anyway early verdict is this is way better than I thought it was gonna be. If you're on the fence just try it. Will update when I get further.
Made me feel like Metroidvania's were worth playing again. Interesting world design, interesting locations, very underated. There is some jank but its not game breaking, not much hand holding, which is fine if you want to be treated like an adult and figure things out for yourself. Cybernetic upgrades were neat as well as the unique weapons gained from boss fights.
Dark Light has been under my radar for years. Even when on discount I didn't buy it, I dont know why. Perhaps it was that feeling of "jankiness" that sometimes is a hit or miss on some games. And then I buy it. And, you know? Is janky. But the good type of janky. Something that I really appreciate is that the character movements are precise, fast and intuitive. Is not the type of game that turns platform gameplay in a real hell. The combat is fun and gives enough room for experimentation. You can go full melee (the fun way) or ranged, or a mix of both, or go full on skills. The challlenge is ok. Feels like a balanced soulslike. Boss can felt overwhelming but that is the initial impression. Sometimes you can even tank them. Also I think Dark Hunter-07 is a badass. Looks like an explorer of the deep abyss. Is like a mix of Hunk from RE and The Assassin from "Mad Dog". Simple, basic but perfect for this world. A cool design.
Im a sucker for this artstyle, its takes a little bit from multiple sci fi and horror genres and makes it own unique palette. I wouldnt really call its a souls like, maybe it has a few elements, its most hack and slash, kinda metroidvania game, the UI, some animations among other things might be a little janky, but the sum of its parts were fun as hell
