My favourite ever point n' click adventure, played near original release (on a friends PC) and managed to finish it without using any guides or getting overly-stuck. Twenty odd years later and the game is every bit as good as it was back then. It was so memorable I even remembered some of the solutions from all those years ago. The remaster itself is also good, You can switch (with a button press) between the classic or remastered versions. The classic version retains the beautiful pixel art of old but you don't get much screen for the actual game, big borders to the sides and the UI takes up the bottom third. Also you can't use the new control scheme which is much better if you play with a controller. The remaster uses the entire screen for gameplay and is much better if you play with a controller but honestly (personnal taste thing) I didn't like the re-traced, smoothed out graphics. Luckily you can use Reshade with YeetronCRT filter to make the game look absolutely stunning, like high definition pixel art.

Bought this because I just had to. This is one of the games that I remember very well from my youth. - It contains the original Maniac Mansion as a game within the game, which was a genius move at that time. - The humor is blunt and original, sometimes utterly stupid. I love it. - Some puns with American history. If you're not American, you usually won't get taught about George Washington and that cherry tree, so there's an extra bit of cultural education you wouldn't expect in a computer game. - The characters rock. And by that I don't mean just Hoagie. - Unique style and graphics for the backgrounds. And I feel this has been copied / referenced A LOT ever since. Don't ask me, but that ridiculous, overly-crooked drawing style I loved so much in Beetlejuice or Invader Zim... I think I saw it first in the original Day of the Tentacle. What I really really love about this Remastered Version: - Press F1 at any(!) time to deliberately switch between the original and the remastered version. The way this has been done is soooo great. Kudos to the guys who implemented this. So cleverly done. You get to experience the original UI and the original music this way, but ... somehow gapless. Nice. - The remastered version stays absolutely true to the original cartoonish feeling. - Optional Dev comments during the game. This is a gimmick that feels like it were included specifically for guys like me. Thank you. Little things that weren't so great: - German translation. There are some little things every now and then that were quite off, and they show the speakers weren't aware of the context of their copytext. Also the voices: Hoagie and Purple Tentacle are not nearly as good in German as they are in English. For the best experience, stick to English. Clearly a recommendation. With a special place on my shelf.

I often wonder of how older games gel with newer generations. I have no idea of how something like this would land on a generation whom gaming means Roblox. I have no idea if the brain-plowing humour to me doesn't feel alien or cringy to them. I have no idea. All I know is that I'm old. I played the sequel Maniac Mansion on C64 back in the '80s. It was a hard SCUMM engine point'n'click adventure game by LucasArts but it was worth every click, cracking every clue. Then came Zak McKracken that is a completely different yet same way fun story using the same game engine. Then years passed by, Monkey Islands and Indy Jones SCUMM engine games came out and all were fun. Then, this one came out and it was on a completely different level, both in difficulty, complexity, writing and concept. I was completely knocked out by Day of the Tentacle back in the day. I'm sure it's the best game of its kind of point'n'click adventures. I'd also say, most probably it's one of the best games, ever.

Old but excellent. One of the better point&click adventures. I had to look some things up, but very playable for the most part. Getting 100% achievements did require me to use a walkthrough.
