This is a bit of difficult game to recommend to others, since it does have some flaws that some people might not be able to overlook. First in foremost there's not much of an engaging story beyond the initial setup. Even after you finish the game and see the extra scenes it does very little to explain why these girls are being kidnapped, or why they were specifically chosen. Then for half the game each interaction with the girls is very similar with a few changes, which feels very repetitive considering how many of the girls you have to talk to. After that each girls' story gets more interesting. The choice system is simple, where you choose between two options. Most of the time it leads to one right answer giving you more points and the other one point. Other times both options give you just one point and the outcome is almost exactly the same. Ultimately acquring more points for your favorite girls doesn't seem to matter as of the time I played the game, because you can unlock all the endings automatically. It just seems silly the way the system is setup where it's fairly easy to acquire the points since there are only two options at a time, yet the points don't matter. The production is solid for what it is. There only a few locations in the game. It's obvious the developers used all the budget to secure all these actresses; who are fan favorites in the genre, and that's the main draw. The ladies' acting is really good, as expected from their experience in prior games. I will applaud most of the endings to be more than worth checking out. It's just the way their worded is a bit misleading, as Normal is a short ending when you just get caught and taken away, True Ending shows you escaping and plays extra scenes showing other girls getting kidnapped, Popularity is the actual true ending and Bonus is additional scene that is adds to this. Beating the game and seeing all the endings takes about 5 hours. It's a linear game so there's not much to do after that. Overall this is a fun game if you keep your expectation low. I do hope it's successful, so we can see a sequel with a more fleshed out story/branching path system, and more locations.
This is actually neither thumbs up or thumbs down for me. But since I must choose, I guess I'll choose thums up. The plus, 8 girls (including my fave, Chen Man), can get all endings in one go, if you do it right. Achivements are simple, 1 achivement = 1 ending. The minus, all the girls have the same template, even the endiings are basically the same, just with different girl.
Inner Scales 1: Choice A long-awaited title from Mystery Crown. Playtime Around 4 hours is enough to complete everything. Story 8 female leads, all imprisoned in an isolated facility. What unfolds is a journey of approaching, getting to know, seducing, or simply using the male lead to escape this place. Zhao Mengyao (赵梦瑶 - Zhào Mèngyáo) That mid-broadcast kidnap scene was such a killer twist to ramp up the tension! Her character design is insanely well-done: outwardly confident and super charming, to the point where she’s totally convinced no one can resist her. But with that sensitive physique, she ends up feeling both fierce and weirdly fragile at the same time. Loving how bold and direct she gets, using her charm purely as a survival tactic to navigate through the danger. But the deeper you get into the story, the more you feel for her—that lively, energetic facade is really just a cover-up for how lonely she actually is. Truly a top-tier character, 10/10! Lin Yuwei 林雨薇 (Lâm Vũ Vi) A proud female CEO who once laid off Zhang Cheng. Drugged and imprisoned due to corporate warfare, she is calm, intelligent, and accustomed to leveraging money and status to get her way. Yet in her desperation, she slowly opens up to Zhang Cheng. But the dynamic between her and the protagonist doesn't end there. To Zhang Cheng, is she just a former boss deserving of resentment? Are her words of trust and encouragement genuine, or is it all a calculated lie designed to manipulate him into aiding her escape? A sharp, brilliant, and charming CEO who knows how to exploit every advantage to reach her goals—is this true love, or pure deception? Xia Meng 夏梦: Light, Shadows, and the Cost of the Spotlight Xia Meng comes across as the classic bright, cheerful dance teacher who lights up every room she walks into. But underneath that beaming optimism lies a deep-seated insecurity and a desperate craving for recognition—a tragic vulnerability that ultimately left her exposed when she was drugged and captured at a party. Her passion for dance isn't just a hobby; it’s an obsession that demands everything from her. Behind her radiant smile is a relentless routine: waking up at 5:00 AM every single day, enduring strict discipline, and surviving on just a single meal a day just to keep her body in peak condition. For Xia Meng, dance is her life—to the point where dying on stage wouldn't be a tragedy, but perhaps the ultimate end to her story. Shen Xingyao - 沈星瑶 A spoiled young lady from a wealthy family. She was kidnapped after ditching her bodyguards to get her father’s attention. Naive, willful, and eager for care, she is unfit for hardship but pure at heart. In her innocence, she mistakes the male lead’s care and protection for genuine love, clinging to the belief that he is her knight in shining armor who will rescue her from this harsh reality. She naively dreams of a fairytale future—a pink, picture-perfect world where she can return to being a cherished princess, happily ever after by his side. Graphics / Audio Nothing particularly special—only XiaMeng’s dance scene is a bit interesting. Visually, however, it is stunning, beautifully bringing out the charm and beauty of each cast member in every single frame. Final Verdict A significant step forward for Mystery Crown compared to their previous titles. Here’s hoping and looking forward to Inner Scales 2!
I really enjoyed this game! It’s backed by fantastic performances from the actresses, a solid narrative concept, and top-tier fan service. However, a few narrative shortcomings prevent it from reaching its absolute full potential. To sum it up: In Thailand, It feels like a delicious plate of Basil Fried Rice without a fried egg, eaten with only a spoon and no fork. It’s still very tasty, but you can’t help feeling something is missing. . SPOILER WARNING This review contains major structural and plot spoilers for Inner Scales 1: Choice. While it doesn't spoil every detail, it touches on core narrative progression and character dynamics. Read at your own risk! . When looking at the narrative, there are two distinct perspectives to consider. First is the male lead, Zhang Cheng, who feels surprisingly plain from the player's point of view. He acts mostly like a delivery boy—delivering food, chatting with eight captive heroines, and eventually escaping with just one. He lacks the active struggle or problem-solving agency seen in protagonists like Ren Xing from Back 1. That said, his passive behavior is somewhat justified by realism. Strictly following orders is the safest choice after discovering a body in an inmate uniform near the perimeter. Furthermore, Part 1 heavily nerfs him to build a baseline for character growth in future installments. On the other hand, the game truly shines in how it handles the eight heroines. Their four-day progression under high-stakes emotional pressure is written exceptionally well. Day 1 starts with fear and confusion as they are trapped alone and suspicious of the protagonist. By Day 2, panic escalates as they are forced into inmate uniforms and learn about the dead body, realizing their time is running out. Day 3 forces desperation, leading them to share deep vulnerabilities to convince the protagonist to save them, even when he responds with his own helplessness. Finally, Day 4 becomes a do-or-die moment where they put everything on the line, including physical devotion, to survive or gain closure. The underlying lore and connection to other games also add great depth. The eight girls seem to be targeted because of their deep emotional and psychological struggles, ranging from family issues and debts to workplace burnout and extreme panic. Resolving these internal issues through a genuine bond with the protagonist seems to be the key to their escape. Furthermore, the Easter eggs and crossover endings cleverly tie into the alternate dimensions seen in Back 1 and Back:Fade, laying an exciting foundation for Part 2. Overall, the game offers a smooth system with easy scene navigation, especially after recent developer patches. The fan service is top-tier with unforgettable moments across all four days, and the teased sequel mechanics make me genuinely hyped for what's next. Despite the linear protagonist, it remains a very enjoyable experience. If you like story-driven FMV games with great character interactions, it is definitely worth playing!
