Be aware: This is essentially a puzzle game. You are using characters with different abilities (and many characters don't do damage -- they only buff or rearrange enemies) to line enemies up to be defeated all at once. You get rewarded on how few rounds of moves it takes for you to do this. You even need to defeat batches of enemies to make others appear so that you can defeat them all in time. As long as you are aware that it is a puzzle game, it is brilliant. The story is a little goofy, but fun. The dialogue/banter is great. This isn't deeply introspective, but it certainly made me chuckle. But the combat sequences are puzzles. Be aware of what this game is before buying it.

I like this game, but I wish I loved it. Weak writing and some gameplay issues betray the stellar graphics, bumping OST, and fun tactical combat with incredible boss fights. Honestly, Demonschool leaves a terrible first impression--the earliest parts of the game are particularly rote, with sidequests like "Find a guy's sandwich," and they don't get much better from there. In terms of characters, I quite enjoyed Faye's manic positivity and Namako's sharp uncertainty. Our protagonists are multifaceted and charming. The same can't be said for a good half of the other party members, unfortunately, who live and die by their singular joke. Destin won't shut up about snakes. Primrose keeps bringing up spleens. Jem is the worst and he keeps talking about smoochies. I do not want smoochies. I am not amused. I think the reason so many of the party members are one-note is that there's *so many* of them. That's great for gameplay, bad for the story. Characters will come into the plot at random with zero fanfare to join the team, because, well, they're here now, and that's what matters I guess. The male characters are the worst about this, but honestly, the male characters in general are kind of a dumping ground for the game's worst writing (again, Destin and Jem.) The plot itself is... Fine? I went "That's it?" at the ending(s), but a big part of that comes from the fact the developers killed the plot momentum after the final boss by having all the characters stand around and pick what ending you get. I like the joke endings, they're cute, but the impact of any one was sucked out after going through ten others. I'd call it horribly indecisive on the part of the developers. Besides the writing, there's way too much combat, but I liked the combat, so that was mostly fine. It just got a bit silly when literally every scene would have some weak excuse for fighting demons. The demons are going to attack *insert innocent person or creature* we have to help them! Okay, that's understandable, we're heroes. It's something else when we're picking flowers or trying to fix up a game console and enemies will go "I'm going to kill you for no reason because I'm evil!" but most of the enemies who do that are cops so I guess that's accurate. Too much combat, too many party members. With a less bloated cast, they could've been setup and developed the characters (and plot) with more care. Agh, though, for as much as I've picked at this game's flaws, I do it with a weird sort of affection. I don't dislike Demonschool, I promise, I recommend the game, I just wish it was better. I can see the potential! It's SO close. Demonschool is a 7/10 game that's going to become someone's obsession. Someone out there is going to love this game very, very much, and talk about it for years. I wish that could've been me.

I usually wait til I've played more before reviewing games but I just talked to an NPC who said "Hold me closer." I looked at the top of his speech bubble and it said his name was Tiny Gangster. 10/10 Will obsessively talk to every NPC from now on.

Big fan of whenever you can feel the authors' weird extremely specific interests coming through a game, loud and clear. Also a big fan of something that feels like Into The Breach through the lens of someone who had a real good time playing every Nintendo DS RPG ever made. Necrosoft put together a really generous thing here. Expect something a little goofy and a little exuberantly campy and you'll have a real gosh darn good time.

Althought i didn't played the game alot yet, for now i'll give it a positive review, but it has flaws. The combat system looks interesting and the graphics are great, however i need to say that this game suffers the same issue Hundred Line and Valkyria Chronicles 1 had, and even worse. This isn't a strategy rpg, is a puzzle rpg game. Every battle you encounter has a turn limit in case you want to reach 3 stars, AKA, the maximum rank in the combat, if you didn't win on the turn limit, you will not have the maximum rank, wich means less points you will receive, wich means you will take longer to buy the abilities in the shop, the game allows you to rewind the battle even if you beat it, so is not like if you fail it to do it on time you will never do it again. But, again, this isn't a strategy game like Devil Survivor (wich is the closest game with the gameplay of Demonschool), the game wants you to find the most precise and perfect solution for the battles. Some might not care about this like i do, but some might find it a big issue, take this info in consideration if you want to buy the game. The game has bugs like the reviewers said already, to the point that my game crashed in the middle of a battle, the music sometimes stops, etc etc, i assume the game will get a patch day 1. And the spanish translation is heavily influenced on the mexican language, so if you are not from there, you can have difficulties understanding what it says, and is also sometimes a direct translation of the english script, let's just say that i switched to the english translation in 30 minutes, it clearly needs to be fixed (and specify this is the LATAM Spanish, and not "Spanish" in general like the game says) For now the game is good, i can't talk about the script or the characters yet, but is doing fine, however, the bugs and the game being clearly a puzzle style are things to be considered.
