For anyone scratching their head over the polarizing reviews: This type of game isn't for everyone and that's perfectly fine. It plays like an old rpg game, with very simple combat mechanics, predictable level and character progression and (probably most detrimental to the modern gamer) very little meta-progression. Nothing in these old fashioned dungeon crawls is really supposed to be permanent, the entire experience is just a endurance run to see how far you can make it. But that's the fun of it. our weapons and equipment will break, we'll run out of potions and gold, and at the end of the day sheer luck is the most deciding factor on how long we survive (which is not to say skill and planned character building is inconsequential). If you like old, unforgiving dungeon crawls (first person or top down) this is a great little game to play now and again. If you need more engagement and find these games to be painful slogs you'd be wasting your money on this one. over all I'd say a 4/5 game for what it is. One point off because genuinely the bosses are unfun, all they do is pile up on you with no way to dodge so it's really just a fight to see who can take more hits.

Very fun with a lot of level, build, and game mode variety, but chaos mode however is straight up devious on later floors.

I think Devil Spire Falls is much better than the first game, but I fully support the dev.

Worth a buy if you dig the oldschool kingsfield/underworld dungeon dive and crawl in roguelite form. Just don't expect to get too far unless you dedicate time to getting good and learning to play the game... but that's the fun ain't it?

Seems kinda primitive and barebones at first. Turns out it is very fun and addictive anyway. "One more try" kind of game. When you're pretty sure why you messed up the last time, so next time will be better. Right? Right. One more try... Also, I've seen some youtube videos where people call it a "King's Field like" for some reason. Well, it's not. If you're into exploring giant interconnected areas and piecing together obscure lore bits, then look somwhere else. This game doesn't have that. The randomly generated levels have very simple layouts. And an automap won't allow you to get lost. The challenge comes from combat and resource management. Which is fine. Just not something I think of when I hear "King's Field like".
