April 2025
To preface my review: I love dinosaurs. Always have, always will. This game is absolutely perfect if you love dinosaurs, puzzles, comfort and adventure. I come to this game every time I've had a rough day at work, or I just need something positive in my day. The game has lots to offer and much enjoyment to be had. Now, I do have some gripes about certain things, but none of this affects the game itself. The advertising and public marketing has raised my expectations more than the game has delivered. I honestly expected more from this game. I was expecting dinosaurs and other reptiles from all eras, judging by the Brachiosaurus and Allosaurus skeletons in advertising. The game as it stands only contains cretaceous animals. The development team is also very quiet and rather unresponsive, which is concerning for a development team who had gotten crowdfunding support. The game is complete, but things like DLC and future updates, even just hotfixes are just hard to predict. And finally, this issue is more personal than anything, but the game itself, if played with every upgrade and with employees in your museum, is rather repetitive. Most of all I have multiple complete museums at this point and if I'm honest, the galleries in them are never fully filled, making it feel as if the game is incomplete. Above all else, I'm not letting these factors deter me, I still play this game quite a bit and enjoy every second of it. I'm just hoping we can see more content from this game in the future, the designer and raptor DLCs were promising and I'm hoping for more to come. I just wish I had a roadmap to see when these updates might come! An Update: unfortunately it seems as if the developers do not have enough time or money to put into this game. I have browsed their discord and it seems as if only a few avid fans are keeping tabs on this game. The developers have gone radio silent for months and have stated that the game is niche, therefore they have prioritized their money maker, Occupy Mars. It is unlikely we will see any future updates for this game.

Really wish the option wasn't just "yes" or "no" to reccomendation. I'm really enjoying this game but I also have some gripes. Let's break it down. Pros: +Paleontology simulation. This game let's you play "paleontologist" and dig up dinosaurs and clean them etc. +Design your own museum. Designing the displays is fun. It feels nice to take pride in your museum and create your own displays and such. +Decent graphics. +Decent number of features. The gameplay loop has you doing enough different things to keep it interesting. Driving around, digging, cleaning the specimens, assembling the limbs, assembling the complete skeleton, designing the exhibit, laying out your museum and choosing flooring and walls etc. +Some good dinosaurs represented: T-Rex, Styracosaurus, Triceratops, Stegoceras, even Pteranodon (technically not a dinosaur, but something a paleontologist would study) Cons: -Gameplay is a bit repetitive. You will do the same thing again and again and again. Not unusual though for a "_____ Simulator" type game -Controls are weird when cleaning the parts. If you're cleaning parts from a large rock you can't easily rotate them in all cases and have to try to walk around the prep area in slow motion as if in thick mud in order to get the right visual angle on the bones. When I was prepping the Triceratops skull the two parts were halfway off my screen and I always felt like I was struggling to angle the camera in a way that allowed me to actually do what I was trying to do. -The exhibit design tool wants you to just cram an absolute ton of fake plants and stuff into the exhibit before it will acknowledge that you've done enough. I set up a classic Rex versus Triceratops display and started running out of available space to place fake plants and rocks before it finally acknowledged that the display was sufficiently decorated. -NO SAUROPODS??? Seriously, I located every dig site and discovered every species and there are multiple theropods, two different ceratopsians, and even a pterosaur but there is not one sauropod in this game. The museum has a really tall ceiling and multiple levels of catwalks that encircle the room so it would be so perfect for displaying a giant sauropod but, nope. There are none. Also no Stegosaurus, which is a bit disappointing. -Too much guidance for assembly. Once you've cleaned all the bones in a particular rock you are then shown a ghosted model of the arm or rib cage or whatever and have to click each bone and click where it goes in the ghost image and when you click a part the correct location lights up. I want to have the option to have to "solve" it myself. During the intro you are presented with 3 dinosaur toys and are told that they represent three difficulties and the T-rex model works like I would like for the assembly to work. Just a set of dots indicating that a part is needed there, but you have to pick up each piece and add it. I assumed this was showing the different difficulty options, but nope, other than the toy T-rex you never get to try and assemble the dinos using your own problem solving. You just mechanically click each part and then click the location that lights up. To be clear, I like this game, but I would love it if the devs would implement some changes to fix some of the things in the cons column. Particularly I would like at least one Sauropod and a "hard mode" for assembly.

It's repetitive, but it's nice to zone out and listen to an audiobook as I dig out an entire hillside. Speaking of...yeah, the extra tools and such are kinda pointless if you just can dig all the dirt and stone away from the entire location. Still, I enjoy it, probably not for everyone. The decoration is okay, I would have liked to hang the pterandons from the ceiling but oh well. I feel the biggest missed opportunity was in education. It would have been fantastic to say...get a little description of each bone as I'm assembling it. Just a little blurb of text in the corner saying what it is called. Also would've loved more details on each species we assemble. Like...the target audience is clearly dino nerds, let us nerd out! It's also a little buggy with the workstations, controlling where you are in relation to the bones/rotating the bones so you can get everything assembled only works half the time. Oh...and I really hate the driving bits. Just let me spawn at the dig sites. But still...overall it's chill, and I enjoy it.
