Really enjoying this, and I think probably more people should try it than are going to at the current rate of reviews. Seems like a lot of the negativity comes from 1) It's not Disciple II (sure, it isn't) and 2) general misunderstandings or impatience with the game. The writing's actually pretty good -- within the top 25% or so of games that get released these days. And the tactical depth of the combat is enough to be pretty interesting. Way, way better than you'd think from summarizing the current reviews and top reviews on here. It's not a quantum leap past Liberation. If you played Liberation and liked it, you'll like this too, but if you didn't like Liberation this isn't likely to change your mind. There's some balance and pacing tweaks of things they clearly learned from the weaknesses of Liberation that you might like. For example, plenty of units have been moved back a Tier, and Tier 1 has been more or less skipped. I think that's a good step. Overall unit count is down, but there's an entire new faction with new mechanics to make up for it. Trying to find the right mix of strategies, and the right factions that complement each other, is good fun.

First thing first: this game is not worth its asking price. It feels very cheaply made overall and the cut corners are extremely visible everywhere. The worst part is that all of the units returning from Liberation (which is the majority) are reusing their voicelines. It's particularly jarring when the Undead units keep blabbering about Mortis, whom you killed in the previous game (no spoiler, it's in the intro). The Daughter of Sin, a unit originally released as part of a low quality cash grab of a DLC, still doesn't have bespoke voicelines either. And the "story cinematics" also look pretty bad - if you can't do proper cinematics, you can use high-quality 2D art like Total War Warhammer and it's much better than this. But the biggest disappointment for me comes from "Domination mode". (basically NG+) In the previous game's "Liberation mode", you had new lines of dialogue with a better outcome (letting you unify the factions instead of having to choose like in the normal game), which culminated in the new, "true" ending. Here the entire game is identical (except that you get to play with an overpowered army and roll over everything, like in any NG+), apart for the ending. As a result it doesn't make any narrative sense and feels completely random. It's also a terrible ending overall, so the fact that it comes out of left field is even worse. At this point you're reading this and wondering why this is a positive review. The fact is that the core gameplay - the exploration as well as the tactical battles - are still fun oiverall. It's not like I hated my time with the game. The new studio at least made an attempt at balance, so while it's still below average it's not as ridiculous as Liberation was on that front, and in NG you'll have to use at least three braincells for most of the game. I do regret that some units are infinitely stronger than others, especially for the "Backline" system - would you rather have a tiny irrelevant buff on 3 random units, or someone who has a 1000-damage attack that repeats as long as it killed something? It shouldn't surprise you that when the publisher feels the need to mention a "dark and mature story" in the game's description, it's complete bollocks. This is how 14 year olds describe their first fanfiction. The writing is not particularly amazing and the characters are almost all entirely one-dimensional. Still, it's at least devoid of the insufferable Marvel-like quips that we've all come to hate, so it's serviceable. It's just that the story takes itself way more seriously than it should with this level of writing. Overall: it's a 5/10 game, which I would bump to 6/10 because there are too few games where you can be friendly with Undead and Demons without playing a cartoonishly evil character. If you enjoy the genre and especially games with multiple playable factions, you should feel free to buy it... but probably not at more than 30€.

Overall the game is good and similar to liberation. It is one campaign that takes about 35hr for complete clear (lvl 50 at end boss). It is good that you can use all the factions right away but you will need to focus on a couple to max rep. Unfortunately with only single campaign you do not get the uniqueness of only using one faction as they all play different. The biggest con is the leadership is too low (you are likely only going to use one teir 4 in your army late in the game) and you do not unlock tier 4 units until end of chapter 3 (20+hrs in). Leadership is important but they do not tell you how it inceases (from playing - upgrading castle, and levelup 5, 15, 25...) I do miss the older games where you had to level units to evovle them, while keeping them alive. This game you can simple buy units you lose and leadership limits the tiers you can have. There is no point to upgrading units in this game.

If you liked Disciples: Liberation, you'll also like Disciples: Domination. It is Disciples: Liberation, only more modern and therefore better. However, fort eh 3rd part it would need new mechanics, spells, and units, as a third time with just an upgrade of the last 2 games would be too boring for me. Compared to Disciples: Liberation, there are fewer units and fewer heroes. However, the heroes are more varied than in the first one.

Domination is a direct sequel to Disciples: Liberation. If you enjoyed Liberation's style of gameplay (which is more akin to King's Bounty), then you will enjoy Domination. If not, this most likely won't be the game for you. The Good: - a solid improvement from the previous game - sound effects are incredible - spells and abilities sound meaty and satisfying when using; even the sound of your horse galloping around the map is good - if you enjoyed the story of the previous game, this one provides even more of it with interesting quests, 2 new companions with solid voice acting, while many characters from the previous game return as either playable or have some sort of cameo - the music is very good - the Disciples lore is very much present with references to older games as well as the deities playing a strong role within the story - have not encountered any bugs or game-breaking issues, no crashes whatsoever and the game runs fine - you no longer need to dismiss certain buildings within Yllian to recruit certain troops; every faction gets their own building with all units present - Avyanna can now choose her class from level 2, and you get access to spells much faster, making the combat more fun - the Mountain Clans return; their units are really fun and Helmer, the dwarven companion, is really good The Bad: - some voice actors have been changed from the original cast and unfortunately are not as good as some others, but they try their best - some battle tracks are re-used from the previous game; more battle music is appreciated - the graphics and art style are alright, but Disciples 3 had a much more dark and beautiful motif, and unfortunately Domination does not reach that high point - the user interface is too modern; the other games had a much more thematic interface and they are sorely missed - less units that the first game, though they have brought an extra faction - Ormeriel is not a playable companion, this is shameful Leaving aside to whole "this is not Disciples 2" conversation, which I'm sure will plague this series as long as it will exist, Disciples: Domination is a solid strategy RPG and I enjoy it a lot. I've played every Disciples game and every one of them has its own problems, this one included. However, I am thankful that Nevendaar continues to exist and I really hope the devs are able to deliver upon their promise of this being the second part in a trilogy. Bring back Ormeriel though.
