To be honest, I fell asleep for nine hours before noticing that I had this game open in the main menu. I then made the decision to play it. It was such a fantastic game and had so much potential. There were other factors to consider, particularly remorse and mental health. Price was prone to despair and nightmares because he believed he was responsible for the deaths of those around him. He was ultimately driven into the depths of worry and misery by his own self-loathing. Suggested rating: 9/10. I only wish it were longer. This game takes around 54 minutes, and it's simple to gain all achievements, great story telling, scary music and beautiful 2D animation. Looking forward to Distraint II once I get it in the future.

One of the best budget indie psychological horror games I've ever played. It’s affordable and memorable, so you can't go wrong by giving it a try. If you enjoy it, be sure to check out its sequel, which wraps up the storyline.

What a depressing game and what an important moral. You are playing a gentleman who works for a company that "kicks" people out of their abodes. Your motivation is money, who would have thought? Game is filled with many horror elements that are all "technically" harmless to the player. It will only damage your mental health. I almost got stuck in a room full of old Women but I thankfully found my way out. I really like this art style and am excited to play the second game. Don't play it if you crave warmth and happiness.

Distraint is a beautiful pixel experience among indie psychological games. I first played it on Android and now on PC. And I have to admit that the Steam Deluxe Edition, with its colourful elements, is fantastic, unlike its standard counterpart. Now for the overall gameplay experience: You play as Price, a young man who tells his story of regret for his 'ambitious' choices. Here, the player can reflect on Price's actions. Was what happened in the story a natural consequence of his own emotional immaturity and the choices of the tenants he influenced? Was it the system that was ultimately evil, playing with people's destinies? Or was it the businessmen, always obsessed with ambition, who acted in the name of 'the law'? Or was it a combination of factors, where no one is really black and white, but morally grey? The developer obviously wanted to make a critique of the capitalist system, but also connect it to a deeper level. There are a lot of interesting scenes where the dev shows how corrupt the system is, but also how impressionable and childish Price is to a certain extent. Now, I don't agree with many of Price's perceptions and some of his actions, but I also don't agree with some of the moral messages that the game tries to give us. Ultimately, the game is open to interpretation, and it's a nice opportunity to reflect on our society and its flaws. As for the horror part, I was expecting some mild horror, probably in the style of Mad Father or a similar title. The bobble head characters definitely remind me of Dead Road to Canada, very funny like. What distinguishes Distraint is the constant fog-like atmosphere, the eerie music and the background effects, the latter of which keep you in suspense. The way you have to move around the rooms can also add to the tension. The whole story seems to be the product of a nightmare projected onto an old film. It's a very curated way of presenting horror in pixels. There are a few references to sayings that come to life as part of Price's hallucinations, and because the theme remains a social and serious one, the game remains engaging for the most part. I conclusion. Do I recommend it? For the most part, yes. I do. It's a nice little game, don't expect it to be Silent Hill in pixels, this is an indie Game, and a short one. But it's worth the try, for what it offers. If you enjoy story rich games and your system hasn't the specs for a heavy horror game, this is a good option for a mildly chilling experience.
