First impressions after only 90 minutes of play: - Very good English translation: unlike many other games in this genre (mostly Chinese), this game has a proper English translation, not just "Google translate"-like subtitles where dialogue is fuzzy. Nope: good and correct English here. - Mix of comedy and "racey" moments: I appreciate the "down on his luck" setting for the playable character that gets thrown into a new job at a remote hotel. All the characters/ladies so far have a mix of heartfelt moments but also comedic/awlward moments, together with some... "racey" ones. - Good presentation: like I said, only scratched the surface on this one, but there's a lot of good shots and attention to detail. There are also some shots where you can see the main character kind of in a "3rd person" view of the scene, which I haven't seen before and lends to the overall feeling of being immersed in the story, since it's not 100% first person all the time. Only downside I can think of is that it really seems like the OG Korean dialogue is not recorded real-time with the video performance, but actually it's dubbed for the video. It's a bit of a shame, but at the end of the day it doesn't impact things much. Let's be honest, it's not like I can speak Korean, but I noticed. So far, it's been a very nice first session of gameplay, I'll edit this upon completion of first playthrough. Cheers. EDIT: After some more hours, I finished my first playthrough. I was struggingling on which character to focus on, since many were so interesting, so I went back and forth wtith some choices in some chapters. In the ended I chose one and it was pretty cool all the way to the end. Even with the other characters you got to learn a lot and have some nice moments with. So, this just confirmed my early impressions: it is a very good game in this genre. In conclusion I'll say this: all the characters grow on you, regardless of your personal preference, and having a proper English translation goes a long way. I don't think anyone interested in this FMV genre would have any hard time enjoying this.
Don’t Fool Me, Beauties — Review Played for about 10 hours so far, and I’m still working on unlocking the rest of the achievements. It’s honestly a fun little game, especially if you enjoy FMV titles. The strongest part is definitely the characters. Each one has a different personality, and getting to know them is actually enjoyable. They feel distinct and the game does a good job of keeping things interesting between story branches. The story is simple but engaging. I liked figuring out how choices lead to different endings, and the satisfaction of getting the “Success!” screen never gets old. It’s more about charm and curiosity than depth, but it works for what it is. There are a few things that could be better — some dialogue pacing feels slow, and the overall presentation is a bit rough in places, but it’s easy to overlook if you’re into this type of game. Overall, it’s a short, charming FMV experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you like interactive stories or just want something light with likable characters, it’s worth checking out. 8/10 — fun, simple, and surprisingly engaging.
There is understated greatness in Don’t Fool Me, Beauties . On the surface it looks like a standard dating sim, but thanks to the setting, characters, endings, and humor, it ends up being the best Korean game in the genre to date. You play as Han-bin, and start working at a remote beachside hotel because you were the only one that applied. The hotel is short on staff and guests, which plays into the story. It is a great setting due to its many natural places to mingle: guest rooms, beach, restaurant, gym, parking garage, stairwells, and offices. But no location is more important than the rooftop onsen/spa that you revisit. The game has four compelling love interests. One is a childhood friend that comes to stay. Another is a model that needs help taking photos. The third is your boss that thinks you’re incompetent and makes you work hard. And the fourth is a supervisor who loves to tease. They’re all great but what’s fantastic is that two of them begin with a neutral (or negative) view of the player. This baseline makes for a slow burn and avoids that typical they-all-love-you-instantly trope. All have a back story that is hidden in the corners, giving them depth without weighing down the narrative. We’re talking 15 minutes worth of conclusions per character, with one bad and two good endings. Although the perfect endings require choice combos—one has 30+ permutations—they are worth it. Clever dialogue helps and a few fourth-wall breaks keep it light. First there is no chapter lock based on total affection, thankfully; some choices unlock funny bad endings, and the finales require high affection, as typical. There are also excellent bonus scenes that show different perspectives, like in FHUOR. With all this split across just four characters, each one gets heaps of screen time. Production quality is high, with good video and directing, although a few scenes are clearly not filmed at the beach hotel. It occasionally shows the player-character in third-person but you never see their face, so it works well. Translation is good, continuing the trend of Korean games offering better English than their Chinese counterparts, although beware mistimed subs and fast text in spots. The main blemish is that ADR is used for everything, but it’s hard to be mad when the execution is fine. In summary, Don’t Fool Me, Beauties is warm and inviting, so don’t be afraid to take a dip.
