It's not the best and you will need a guide, but if you enjoy the other frogware games, give this a try! it's not too long (i leave my game running so the my time is probably half) and it goes on sale quite often. the atmosphere and voice acting is great, and a lot of the puzzles are fun. as someone who likes these types of games and vampires, i enjoyed playing it.

I found this game really enjoyable. I have played many Sherlock Holmes games from Frogwares and, as I am as much a fan of Dracula as of Sherlock Holmes, I was delighted to discover the existence of this game who did not dissapoint me. If you like the point and click style of playing, I really recommend it as it was one of my favorite, if not my favorite from Frogwares. Of course, it can't be said to follow the plot of the book, but contrary to how many adaptations of/works inspired by the novel make me feel, I thought the ambiance and the characterization of the characters (mostly Van Helsing) was done right.

man, i dunno how people did these sort of games, back in ye olde 2008.... GUIDE (ALMOST CERTAINLY) REQUIRED this is such a charming game and if you don't mind the pace being a bit slow (wandering back and forth) it can be a really lovely intro to the dracula series. i HAD to use a guide and i recommend you do too, otherwise you'll just get pissed off trying to figure things out. i've seen people comment on how slowly van helsing walks, some scenes you can skip if you double click, but not always. this is very much a game i like to play whilst i'm doing something else at my desk, as it can take a bit of pondering . - one thing i realised half-way into the game was that you can use the SPACEBAR to highlight clickable things. i'm sure they mentioned this but i must've overlooked it, made it a lot easier. - some of the puzzles are really difficult, and as a puzzle enthusiast (self-declared), having a guide was really helpful. (esp at the turk's gate puzzle, jeez) that's not really a spoiler, i just wanted to use the spoiler tag i'm still working my way through this game but i think visually (yes, 2008 graphics) it's really nice, and plot wise it's also interesting. - update 1: man, a lot of this requires you to remember little things from previous conversations etc. when using a guide for some stuff i go "omg i remember that", but it's just something i've forgotten. if you really want to play without a guide, keep a notepad next to you with plenty of details you think you might need. - update 2: how the f am i supposed to know how to prepare water which hasn't touched the earth through using my nice dish of camel water, with a knife + diamond necklace + mirror ???? that's a kind of ridiculous expectation.... but still, i persevere....

pros ✅ stunning looking and detailed graphics which aged quite well ✅ character models and cutscenes looks decent ✅ there are nice variety and many complex, challenging puzzles. there are also inventory puzzles you can combine some items ✅ when you press the space button, hotspots are highlighted, so there is no need to pixelhunt ✅ a decent and intriguing gothic story based on Bram Stoker's Dracula ✅ background musics perfectly fits the each chapter's atmosphere ✅ there is a nice variety of interesting and creepy side characters ✅ mild horror elements and creepy atmospheric environments ✅ you can travel to plenty of different and interesting cities and countries like London, Cairo, Austria, and Transylvania ✅ decent voice acting ✅ decent length ✅ game drops some cards cons ❌slow character animations. main character also can't run and slowy walk everywhere ❌the resolution is fixed at a 4:3 aspect ratio and can't be changed ❌janky mechanics in the first map puzzle. you have to draw precise connections between different places on the map; otherwise, it didn't trigger to the next scene ❌most puzzles require some sort of esoteric knowledge and thinking. that makes the puzzle solutions really obscure ❌some really time-wasting and tedious-to-solve minigame-type puzzles ❌iffy english translation with odd phrasings ❌very linear gameplay. If you forgot to do something, you'll be stuck. ❌there are no steam achievements Overall, this is hard but a decent and enjoyable old-school point-and-click adventure game with a classic horror story.

so i played this game years ago. it's good, creepy and pretty difficult at points. over all it's great for people who love puzzles. though fair warning the character models are pretty stiff for being 3d but that's cause it was when this stuff was still pretty new-ish. want to get the rest of the games from this dev cause games like this seem to be getting harder and harder to find.
