Hello friends, Today I will review the game Dragon Quest III (3) HD - 2D Remake. This is a remake of the dragon quest games. Playing several versions of this game, i can say this version has nicer graphic style than some of the older ones, is a bit easier than older versions, and it was fun to play. The game has been made easier in many parts. For example, the pyramid level on the basement floor has been made easier. In older version, every step you took was a enemy monster attack. In this version, it is like 2 steps and players will get attacked. Also, the only challenging part of the game i found was some of the post game things, but even then, using certain skills on enemies, it is easy to cheese some of those fights. The graphics are like Octopath Traveler level type. There are very beautiful. The music is also great in this game. Many new things added too, but it depends on last version of this game you played. Like the job system was not in many of the original ones, or the difference in how many items can be held by the players. The other change for this version seems to be the Type A and Type B change. Several people on the forum have complained about which is male and which is female. If a player choose type a or type b, it actually tells you when selecting them that type a is male and type b is heroine. Honestly, i did not find this issue and just played with it as you can change things later in a certain location in case you made a wrong decision while creating your characters. The other big thing in this game is the fact it promotes changing of jobs. This is a good system as some skills can be used on certain bosses to make them easy. For example, the monster wrangler class has some super broken moves that can basically kill any boss if used properly. I even personally killed the post game boss with this class. Anyways, here are my pros and cons: PROS: - A classical remake of Dragon Warrior/Quest 3. It is given the octopath traveler makeover, where it is 2 dimensional spaces, making the towns much more good looking. - The beautiful music score makes the game, including the underworld music. - Many locations to explore, including secret ones. - Post game activities to do. Some are quite challenging, so if you like challenges, try them all. - Job class system lets players customize what skills and spells they can use. Players do not need to max out levels on a certain job. Players can learn all skills, then change jobs. CONS: - Some people are not happy with the removal of male and female in the game, but can be figured out easily when making a decision as it says hero or heroine when making your character. - Sometimes my controller lost functionality while playing. I found this might be due to me alt tabbing out of the game to consult a guide I was using for certain parts of the game to try to find hidden items on the ground. This probably is why i lost functionality to my controller. - Some people may not like the fact much of the game requires grinding to get good weapons and switching job levels. For example, at the end of the post game, many difficult bosses may require grinding levels to use certain skills against them. Do I recommend this game? Yes, I do. I had alot of fun on this game playing it. It brought back many good memories about this game. It is also easier than earlier versions of the game. It only took me about 80 hours to finish everything in the game, including the post game stuff. This is not bad for a rpg, but it can depend on players mileage how fast they play. It probably could be finished even faster than that as i take my time when i play. There are other parts of this series also available now on steam, so if you liked this game, i suggest checking them out.

Dragon Quest III is the only rpg to make me feel like a real hero. After years of struggling to understand the Dragon Quest franchise, dropping both DQIV and DQXI-S in the past, it was DQIII that finally turned me into a Dragon Quest fan. Now I see the magic of this franchise, and I saw a light like no other. Despite DQIII being from 1988 ( 37 years ago), this remake revives every bit of the magic from the past into the modern space by impressively presenting the game through the visual innovation from Square Enix themselves known as the HD-2D series. I know this game demands quite a lot from your average gamer, but you have to realize that Dragon Quest III from 1988 was what legitimized the genre you know and love today. DQIII was the turning point in gaming history to have cemented and massively popularized the genre of JRPGs going forth. Your Personas/Shin Megami Tenseis, the Final Fantasies, the Xenoblade Chonicles, the Trails , all of these games and franchises would not be this good if it weren't for Dragon Quest III. Introducing a flexible party/class system, job changes, deep customization, strong narrative stakes, and a clear heroic myth structure and world-building. After its release, JRPGs were no longer considered as experimental , they became a demand. Compared to Final Fantasy which evolved the genre artistically and narratively, Dragon Quest standardized and made JRPGs mainstream in the first place. As a fan of Square Enix through the Final Fantasy franchise, I devoted myself to consuming every known franchise this company has to offer. Exploring the magnum opus Square & Enix crafted and the games that made us today. Games that changed history forever. And with this I am stoked to consume even more Dragon Quest, particularly I & II going forward. Finishing DQIII genuinly made me happy to have experienced this game. The last time I felt this kind of happiness from finishing a game was from my Final Fantasy marathon 5 years ago. And from there I realized even more that Square Enix captures that magic of the JRPG genre that no other company could fully achieve.

Been playing this on both my Steam Deck and Legion Go. (It looks and performs great on both! text on Legion Go is more readable due to the larger screen) The game is great, fantastic in fact for an old school style game. The story, English voice acting and some of the jokes as part as part of the story and side missions we're all given great effort to make such a great Adventure. NOW! the constant enemies, at every 5-8 seconds you walk "An enemy appears!" I was about to lose interest with not being able to walk at all without encountering enemies every 5 seconds! I was going MAD! I start to consider maybe getting a mod, but decided to just flee instead once I've leveled up enough (you can also use holy water and other items to help reduce the occurrence on enemies but it didn't show much impact for me) Im about halfway in I'd say, i'll update my review once I've finished the game. TBC.

Well, it's official, 20 hours in and I can say that the Dragon Quest III Remake is a nostalgic love letter to the NES classic. It's got that lush pixel art that meshes really nicely with new dynamic lighting, that coupled with the late great Akira Toriyama's art style makes this game truly beautiful. If you prefer a dynamic game with a very complex combat system, this isn't that. The gameplay here has that simple turn-based combat, cast spells, defeat monsters, explore a new town, repeat. Equipment boosts fairly standard statistics with not too much complexity. I have to mention Akira Toriyama's art again. The monsters are simple drawings but it works perfectly and their names are almost all puns like "Rottenweiler". It's easy to throw the game on for a quick 30-minute session, defeat a few monsters, explore a new area, then save at the church until next time. I haven't played a Dragon Quest since VIII for the PS2, but I have fond memories of "Dragon Warrior" on NES so it's nice to see this timeless adventure beautifully refreshed for modern audiences.

An incredible masterpiece of a remake. Honestly, there's no reason to even bother going back and playing any other version of the game, this is the definitive edition. Game looks amazing, plays smooth and the music is just incredibly immersive. Huge QOL improvements, definitely stream lined the game for more casual players but still, Dragon Quest shouldn't be inaccessible. The only reason this game suffered is because of hardware limitations at the time. The NES version feels like a forgotten relic from the past after having only stepped in to this breathtaking rendition of the game for merely a few hours. I couldn't be happier with it honestly. They added some Monster Wrangling class in the game and it almost seems forced that you have one for the majority of the game but it is what it is... it's an optional addition and not at all necessary for you to enjoy the game like you remember. People are complaining about a lot of the DEI stuff like removing Male / Female from the character choice and instead having type A and B... but meh... If you're worrying about these small hang ups, then there's definitely a more deep rooted underlying issue with why you don't want to buy the game. On a more positive note, anyone can be a Vamp now, including males or type A characters, so that's a huge plus as you no longer need to have a harem of female party members to get the most out of your stat gains. Unfortunately, there are other issues under the hood that need to be addressed with the use of mods. These include, but aren't limited to, increasing the speed of the ship / bird and how often you get in to random battles. It's nice SE allowed us to even mod the game so easily, you just grab a mod file and throw it in the mod folder in your steam directory and boom, there you go... no real convoluted 3rd party programs required. The predatory pre-order chest is an annoyance because it will forever taunt you in the character recruitment center but again, you can install a mod to open it and receive all the OP broken items on the start of a new adventure. There's really no reason to hate on this version of the game other than your own personal hang ups about DEI stuff. Everything else is still in tact like you remember it and they even added difficulty settings for the more hardcore fan who would enjoy a true DQ slog experience. Personally I'm just playing on normal mode and having a blast, as it's just the right level of balance for me. The QOL updates are a huge welcome addition, they make for a much more streamlined and smooth adventure instead of grinding XP until your brain rots. I definitely wouldn't pay full pop for it though, as much effort as they put in to this, $90 CAD for this is just insane... I bought it on sale at -25% off... I would wait for at least a 50% sale... especially with the other two games in the series coming out in October. They'll probably do a brack Friday bunduru and package them all together for a huge discount at some point. I feel like this game is going to be the one that shines the brightest because DQ I and II are much simpler in scope by comparison. It'll be nice to see the first DQ game in all it's HD-2D glory once again. Great game! Legendary franchise! Oh a jester badge? Thanks for the free points, we all know who the real clown is though. :)
