I finally got around to playing Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, and I honestly had way more fun than I expected. There's just something about old-school shooters that modern games often miss. The fast movement, the creative level design, the hidden secrets everywhere, and the fact that the game doesn't hold your hand make every level enjoyable. I found myself exploring every corner just to see what I could find. Sure, it's an older game, but that's exactly why I like it. It has so much personality, and Duke's cheesy one-liners still made me laugh. The new episode feels like it belongs with the original game instead of feeling forced, which was a nice surprise. If you're expecting modern graphics or mechanics, this probably isn't for you. But if you enjoy classic FPS games with great level design and nonstop action, this is absolutely worth playing. I had a great time from start to finish, and I'm really glad I finally gave it a chance. Definitely recommended
To my surprise, Duke Nukem 3D is as fun as when I played it almost 30 years ago! I thought I had beaten it in the past, but my memory was mostly of Episode 1. It was great finally experiencing the whole game (and its extra content). You might encounter glitches, like dying out of nowhere a dozen times, but thanks to a rewind mechanic you get back into action instantly. No harm done! By the way, I had trouble finding concrete evidence before buying it, but fear not: this version works great with controllers, if you're into it!
First playthrough review time. The 20th Anniversary version of Duke Nukem is a first-person shooter game that follows a classic action style with shooting and exploration. This version stands out as the most visually refined release. The updated rendering gives a proper 3D look, and the depth is clearly improved compared to earlier releases. The overall presentation shows a clear step forward. However, the gameplay response is not smooth. Mouse aiming is not responsive and makes precise adjustment difficult. Movement also has a delayed reaction, so starting, stopping, and changing direction does not happen instantly. Weapon switching can also act inconsistently, sometimes selecting the wrong option during quick input. In conclusion, while the visual side has been improved in a clear way, the control system holds the game back. The lack of sharp response in movement and aiming reduces the overall quality of interaction, making the experience uneven despite the strong graphical update.
A part of the cult classics such as Doom, Quake and Marathon, the Duke Nukem games are a must-have to add to your collection. It has been fun replaying this game since I was younger. All the new features knocked the dust off this classic and brought it back to life for today's platforms. I replayed every level, including the secret levels that I had discovered. A lot of action. A lot of guns. A lot of explosions, gear, women and fun. "Hail to the king, baby." Features : - Playback : When enabled, you can rewind after dying or making a mistake. Or you can decide to use saves. - Render Mode : Selecting this while in game toggles original source code rendering and 2.5D engine re-mastered rendering in True 3D. - Developer Commentary : When enabled, you can find little icons throughout the levels that can be toggled to hear developer comments. - New Episode : Alien World Order created by original Duke Nukem designers, Allen Blum and Richard “Levelord” Gray. - New Enemies : Firefly Troopers, Overlord Sentries, Cycloid Sentries and a new final boss, the Cycloid Incinerator. - New Weapon : The Incinerator. - New Audio : A new soundtrack for Alien World Order was composed by Lee Jackson, original composer for the game's 1996 release. In addition, Duke's one-liners have been re-recorded by voice actor Jon St. John, and some of the sound effects have been updated. - Multiplayer : Co-op, Dukematch and DM-Bots. Save Folder Location : The saves can be found in the "Gearbox" folder, which is located in : C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local %appdata%\..\Local\ ( copy/paste that line in your file explorer and hit enter ) Locate the "Gearbox" folder and right-click copy and paste to a safe location.
An update to the discontinued Megaton Collection that is... kind of not worth it unless you grab it on a deep discount and want to have another good Duke game to get the taste of the laughable failure of Duke Forever out of your mouth. If you didn't get Megaton when it was available, this is an absolute no-brainer classic FPS worth getting without a doubt.
