Average EDF mission_ - We need to protect the civilians and the city! Get in there and kill those monsters! - *Proceeds to demolish half the city with bombing runs/absurd amounts of rockets/orbital laser strikes/howitzer shells/etc* - 90% casualties. Acceptable losses. Mission accomplished! Four different classes that actually play very differently from one another, lots of stuff to shoot, lots of fun weapons to play with, lots of cool vehicles too, and grinding is actually very fun, and even better with coop. Helldivers II still ain't got nothing on this game.

Game's great, period. Honest opinion: It's like Helldivers 2 but Japan and on shrooms. Gameplay is peak singleplayer and orgasmic in multiplayer. Buy it.

This game is unironically one of the best games I have ever played hands down. As someone who's played the series avidly since Insect Armageddon came out, this game offers an aspect that the other games in the series felt to be lacking in a big way - that aspect being FROGS! I frickin love frogs and in this game, they're genuinely fantastic. I main the Wing Diver which has insane mobility but lacks in health. The frog enemies can blast you to kingdom come but can get stunlocked by Wing Divers very easily. They are also rather difficult to dispatch from a distance with a lot of the weapons in your repertoire, yet simple to eliminate at close distances. I found this all amalgamating to a super interesting and fun dynamic where I would have to use buildings as cover, flying low to keep from being detected as I blasted out of cover, laying into one of the frogs while trying to maintain my momentum before ducking behind another building to try to lose line of sight before I get melted. This dynamic gets even more wild when the game introduces frogs with cannons that blow up buildings, making sneak attacks more difficult to pull off and requiring more strategic approaches. The game in of itself is rather simplistic - the majority of the time you will simply be blasting ants, bees, robots, drones, dragons, spiders, just a lotta gigantic monsters, some requiring a different approach which can keep combat feeling fresh even after you just dropped a few hundred creatures. The dialogue is as cheesy as you'd expect, often times mimicking B tier horror movies from the 70's. I definitely recommend giving this game a go with a group of friends, it goes on sale quite often and at the time of writing this review, it's currently on sale for $14.99. Do yourself a favor and give this game a go.

In light of EDF 6's disastrous launch with the third party account linking fiasco. Just get this one instead. It goes on sale pretty often and almost all EDF games are basically the same. You just get more of the braindead fun I subscribe to. So if this is your starting point in the series I'd really recommend it. The tutorial isn't long and actually forces you to participate in the first missions. Instead of... whatever they thought the forced unskippable tutorial in EDF 6 would do for players. Besides I find the voice acting in this game to be superior to the sixth release.

The creator of this game must be a genius! -Proceeds to wipe my own team with a poorly timed Spritefall while chanting "EDF! EDF!" This game is pure chaos, and I love it . Epic battles explained with a nonsensical plot, always leaving the city flatened, or covered in purple gooey blood, or both. It's made with a lot of care, though. Classes and missions are pretty balanced (I'm sure Inferno difficulty is meant to be unfair, and it's doable with high-level equipment and a proper plan). The gameplay in the series never felt better , now Wing Divers can dash, Rangers have access to Epsilon tanks, Fencers can equip two passive upgrades, and Air Raiders have non-clunky mechs and a clean area-of-effect UI to properly aim all their aerial assault weapons. It's pure fun, go grab it! Thanks for the gift, Moge!
