TL;DR: The game is great. Let me preface this by saying I have not played a Hot Shots game since Hot Shots 3 on my PS2. However, I have over 70 hours in EA Sports PGA Tour and PGA Tour 2K23, so I’m not exactly a newbie when it comes to video game golf, and believe me when I tell you, this game is quality golf. Now, I don’t know about everyone else, but when I see “Mixed” as the score, I’m hesitant. Therefore, I wanted to touch on some of the negative aspects that people bring up that I don’t agree with. - “The voices are annoying.” Yeah, I really don’t get this one. I think part of the charm of this game is the different characters and their personality. Sure, they talk a lot, but I think it adds to the game rather than detract. - “The characters are bland.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. Every character has their own distinct personality, on the course, and most importantly, in the World Tour mode. Every character has their own short story mode, which is a great way to showcase their personality as well as appearances in others’ story modes, leading the game to feel like a huge community of characters. I feel like I am really getting to know each of these golfers. - “The characters suck when you first unlock them.” Yes and no. This game has a pretty unique levelling system. The only way to level stats is to eat food which can be bought and unlocked as you play the game. This means that if you have been playing the game, you will naturally have money, which you can then spend on food to increase any character’s stats. It has gotten to a point where if I unlock a character, the first thing I do is buy food to increase their stats. I own characters I have never touched that can shoot 280 yards because I preemptively increased their stats with food beforehand. Now that being said, there is a stat cap that is unlocked when a character reaches Lvl. 41. This is not necessary in my experience. Unlocking the cap allows characters to shoot ludicrous distances and aim for the green on Par 4s. I want to make one thing clear: this is not necessary. Characters are perfectly capable without the cap unlocked provided you boost their stats a bit first, at least in single player. - “It’s grindy to level characters.” I forget who it was but I believe someone did the math on how many holes you would have to play to level a character all the way up to Lv. 50. They said you would need to play 300 holes, which sounds like a lot, but a golf course is 18 holes. That’s 17 rounds of golf (rounded up). Now, coming from the past 2 PGA games, that’s not even close to the amount of events in the PGA Tour, let alone if you are playing multiple days, and these rounds are fast. Granted, if you want to level all 30 characters, that’s 510 rounds, but that’s for the completionists out there. If you are just a casual player such as myself, you’ll find a few characters you like and max them just by playing normally. You don’t need to level your characters anyway. I’d describe the benefits you get as helpful but unnecessary. Achieving level 8 gets you access to the special shots. These allow such benefits as a higher chip success and hitting a bit harder out of the rough. Useful, yes. Required, no. This is about how it goes with the rest of the benefits. They help, but you don’t need them to play. That being said, what is the issue here? To level characters, you need to play the game? I saw people online complaining that they took out the exploits and that you need to get the ball in the hole instead of giving up the first chance you get. If you’re the type of person that would like to actually play the game you’ve purchased, you’ll be fine. - “The camera angles are awkward.” Yeah, they are a bit weird when you are trying to use an overhead view. There’s no free camera mode and when using an approach shot, the camera faces toward the player instead of away, so you need to move the camera forward to rotate it around the hole. However, it’s manageable. - “CPUs suck in scramble play.” I feel like this is all about how you view scramble challenges. There’s actually a line in the story mode that perfectly sums up how I view them. “A scramble with the reporter? So, it’s a handicap match, then.” This is played for laughs, but that is in essence how these work. In general, they’re not winging them off into the woods or the water, but they aren’t going to make great shots most of the time. It is up to you to pick up the slack. Want your partner to make a birdie putt? You better hit it real close. If it’s any consolation, your opponents are also pretty bad, so it’s ultimately a wash. - “The CPUs take half a minute to take their turn.” Maybe it was patched out but this isn’t true. They usually go immediately, and if they do wait, which happens very rarely, it’s for 12 seconds at most. Plus, if they wait they’re usually going to do something stupid which means a free win in one of the holes, not to mention it’s going to be funny. - “The physics are wrong.” I bought this game in the spring of 2026, so I believe the game to be patched because the physics are fine. I have been playing for 26 hours and I have yet to encounter a single glitch. - “You can only play as two characters at the start.” This is the main thing I love about this game. You need to unlock everything. There are 30 characters and you need to unlock 28 of them. It’s fun playing through both the World Tour and the Challenge Mode and there’s a bit of extra excitement when you unlock characters and caddies after winning a level. If you want to play with someone, I recommend doing the single player modes taking turns with the other person every shot. - “The graphics are bad.” I mean, there’s certainly better looking games out there, but for me, it certainly doesn’t look bad. It’s fine for what it is. The bottom line is, the core golf is good, and that’s all I really want out of a golf game. I understand maybe it’s not as good as the previous title, but I’ve never played the previous title. If you are looking for a fun arcade-style golf game on Steam, look no further. This is it.

I don't know what was wrong at release, I didn't find this game until over 3 months after release. If it was performance problems they seem to have been resolved, I have no trouble running the game at all. I know nothing about Everybody's Golf, but I loved Hot Shots Golf back on the PS2 and was super happy to see this on Steam. There are some weird things like what they call "Scramble" is actually Alternate Shot, but maybe it's a translation issue since the game is made in Japan. It works great on my PC and I am really enjoying the gameplay. I couldn't care less about the story in the World Tour, but completing each character with an S rating on all chapters is fun to shoot for. The food powerup system is a bit weird, but hey, anything you eat improves your stats permanently, so I'm not complaining. Eat. More. Food. If you liked Hot Shots Golf back in the day, you will love this.

TL;DR This is (currently) a buggy, but very worthy sequel. I'm so happy to have this franchise on the PC as I'm a long-time fan of Hot Shots, and HYDE did a great job on the actual game considering it's their first time handling the series. I just want them to iron out the current technical kinks that have led to a lot of the more negative Steam reviews. PROS: • It feels very rewarding to play and is an excellent refinement of the gameplay that worked previously. Hot Shots has always been the defacto arcade "character golf" franchise with limitless depth and the occasional eye-opening experiences on the course lol. • No more MMO-like open world from the 2017 PS4 game, feels more like old school Hot Shots. • Tons of single-player content that's a little grindy for my tastes, but again it's old school and gives me something to work towards. I find myself getting excited when I see a new character I wanna play as show up (there's a whopping 25 of them, almost all familiar faces from previous games), or a new outfit I didn't know existed. Lots of golf courses to get too and plenty of other surprises become available in the pro shop as you play. I like that everything's there, you just have to grind for it. No paid DLC shoved down your throat, or shortcuts to get endgame gear with your wallet. • The inclusion of a story mode is unique , it lets you see what characters are kind of "like" in personality outside their bio and win animations, and also how they interact with one another. Writing's very one-note but that's not why we're here lol CONS: • There are RPG-like golfer mechanics that add a bit of "randomization" to your character's shots early game, until you level the golfer up enough that they can start being more consistent. This was not entirely in the old games, or at least it used to be much more forgiving. I do wish there was an option to play with perfect stats with friends so we could be more artesian with our shot crafting and not be scared to add spin, but oh well. Time to grind. • Performance can be iffy for a game that... shouldn't be running this badly. I can't speak much on this since I'm on a high-spec PC, but this is a major con for many and I see how much of my own system resources it's eating up, even when capped to 60fps. It looks nice and stylized, but it's not PGA 2K25 as far as visual fidelity y'know. I feel for the Steam Deck users who expected a low-entry anime golf game :( • Visually, the game can be a little flat. Which is funny, because it offers HDR. Contrast feels like it needs boosting. A lot of the courses during most times of day and most weathers just don't look as rich in the dynamic range for some reason. Shadows should be darker and I think it'll look perfect. I'd inject some ReShade into this myself but it's got Easy Anti-Cheat (LOL) so I won't mess with it. • Bugs are a very real issue you will encounter. They do need addressing soon, I won't go into them all here cause everyone has different experiences but at least it hasn't been anything game-breaking for me thus far.

If you played the early HS Golfs on Playstation and liked those, this is very much the same. There are some small annoyances, as mentioned in other reviews, but they can mostly be remedied through settings. Annoying things, but can be fixed: Overly chatty golfer/caddies (these can be volume adjusted or muted individually!) Weird default camera angle (you can always cycle through different camera positions, but there's a setting where you can specify which camera is your preference, so that it defaults to it for every shot) Golfer doing weird animations during your swing (there are actually multiple swing modes, but the second one with a curved bar causes your golfer to begin the swing when you start the power meter, rather than waiting until you've finished completely and then takes the shot, this is option 2 I believe) Aside from those pretty minor gripes, the game delivered exactly what I was hoping: an updated HS Golf on PC. If that's what you're looking for, I think you'll find it here. I think this would be a little better at $20 compared to $40, but aside from that, it's great IMO. Performance wise, I have not experienced any issues, but other reviewers have had some issues. I have a pretty good PC, so not sure if it's being caused by specs or incompatibility. I'm on an Intel CPU and NVidia GPU and it runs decently well. Hope this review helps!

Coming from PS4 Everybody's Golf, I was worried this title would not be enough of an upgrade based on early game play footage. But, with minimal playtime, I'm going to agree with the other reviews - this is a solid entry, and brings together a lot of mechanics + some new, into a nice package. No FPS locks, looks great in 4k No unnecessary overworld to slow down time between matches, no menu/UI BS More overall content than the other titles, without an invasive price tag Character textures are improved and look great Only cons are that the course textures are still basic, and nothing more than what you get on the PS4. There is some clipping going on, which can be smoothed out in a patch. I wish they had added more detail to the grass. If this is the area in which they used AI, well, they probably should've just gone with an intern. Also, the textures in the menus are rendering at 720p and look horrible, hopefully will be patched in next version too. Edit: am seeing a lot of negative reviews on performance. Should note that I'm on a high end system and experiencing zero performance issues.
