---See where this game landed on my Metroidvania Tier List beneath this rec!--- This is one of those metroidvanias that gets most of the basics right, yet was somehow very mid and ordinary. I would be comparing this to lesser games like Voidwrought rather than Hollow Knight , as the game doesn't really come close to the bigger hitters. Nothing about Fatal Claw really stood out in a positive way, except for perhaps a sad piano tune which played in one of the biomes. One thing that irked me was the lack of difficulty. ..and then right at the end, the last few bosses were suddenly a huge difficulty spike (after I had been killing most of the bosses on the first try). Late on there was also a platforming section or two that got a bit tricky. So there's not a good amount of challenge in the game until the very end, no difficulty curve, just the dials set at 1 or 10. ..well maybe that's slightly dramatic, let's say 3 or 9. As for exploration, the game marks missing treasures that you need to return for so I didn't feel the need to use my map markers except to mark a teleport point that I was too poor to activate one time (teleport points for some reason cost 300 currency to activate). I don't have much else to say about this game. After a jump your character falls back down really fast which didn't feel the best at first, but was a minor irk moreso than a problem. You can pogo on enemies and they don't have any recourse, they just walk side to side while you abuse them. Once you beat the final boss, it starts a new game with all of your map still explored and teleport points unlocked. The game also respawns the bosses and NPC quest locations (none of these are marked on your map, you have to remember where they were). In this new game there are new collectables spawned all over the map, but having already explored all of these places it just felt like arbitrary busy-work, so this is where I noped out on the game. I had killed all of the bosses and explored almost all of the map once already at this point. There isn't enough space in a Steam Rec to post my entire Tier List, so I cut off the bottom tiers and just left the games I liked. You can find the latest (and better) version of the Tier List on my reddit profile which I update every six months or sooner, located here: [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/metroidvania/comments/14l87nn/my_large_metroidvania_tier_list/]Tier List ===================== My Metroidvania Tier List (PC) (excluding Metroid & Castlevania titles) ===================== -Not an objective list, purely how much I enjoyed the games- S+ Aeterna Noctis | S Tier (Truly Special) Astalon: Tears of the Earth | Hollow Knight: Silksong | MIO: Memories in Orbit | Hollow Knight | Master Key³$ | Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom | S- Solateria | Blasphemous 2 | Cathedral | Crypt Custodian³ | A+ Afterimage | The Last Faith | Supraland³ | Supraland: Six Inches Under³ | Oolo³ | Frogmonster³ | A Tier (Amazing) Elderand | Ori and the Will of the Wisps | Doomblade^ | BioGun | Zexion | Chronicles of the Wolf | Kotama and Academy Citadel | Blossom Tales 2³$ | A- Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights | Depths of Sanity | F.I.S.T. | Pampas & Selene | Ender Magnolia | Mandragora | B+ Blast Brigade | Haak | Turbo Kid | Nine Sols | Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus | Biomorph | Minishoot’ Adventures³ | Banjo-Kazooie³ | Banjo-Tooie³ | Donkey Kong 64³ | B Tier (Really Enjoyed) Animal Well | Alwa’s Legacy | Steamworld Dig 2 | Islets | Blasphemous | After Death | Pronty^ | Mortal Manor* | Escape From Tethys | Outbuddies DX* | Monster Sanctuary | Elliot Quest | Rebel Transmute | Moonlight Pulse | Environmental Station Alpha | Twilight Monk | Death’s Door³ | Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-yo³ | Yooka-Laylee³ | Raider Kid and the Ruby Chest | B- Shadow Labyrinth | Haiku, the Robot | Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown | The Mobius Machine | Ultros | Voidwrought | Crystal Project³ | Shattered Divinities | Unsighted³ | Tunic³ | Prey (2017)³ | Possessor(s) | Before I Go | C+ (Fun) Lone Fungus | Lone Fungus: Melody of Spores | Guns of Fury | Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night | Laika: Aged through Blood | Ghost Song | Kunai | Kingdom Shell | Axiom Verge | Treasure Adventure Game | GigaSword* | Infernax | Flipwitch# | Momodora 4 | Momodora 5 | HunterX | HunterX: code name T | Gestalt | Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists | Super Roboy | BladeChimera | AntiChamber³ | Blossom Tales³$ | Mask of Soul | Tiny Dangerous Dungeons Remake | MF-01 Aerostrike^ | Infinitevania* | Fatal Claw | Xanthiom 2 | C Tier (Enjoyed) The Throne | Plague of Yamorn* | Constance | Column on the Sea | 9 Years of Shadows | Jrago* | Xanthiom Zero | Carrion^ | Chasm | Wuppo | The Mummy Demastered | Catmaze | Curse of the Sea Rats* | Death’s Gambit: Afterlife | Castle In The Clouds DX# | Omega Strike | Aggelos | Midnight Castle Succubus# | Overbowed | Rabi-Ribi | TEVI | Far Star | Sheepo | Skelethrone: The CoE* | Unworthy | Undivine | Somber Echoes | Oirbo* | Ato | Side Scape³$ | And All Would Cry Beware³ | Lycanthorn 2³ | Gravethorn | Vomitoreum³ | Maid of Salvation³ | Kalinur | 100 Pumpkins 2 | Grumpy Jack³ | Sealed Bite | Jedi: Fallen Order³ | Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland | Arkham Asylum³ | Omnigon | SJ-19 learns to Love | Paradox Vector³ | The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest | Hargrave | Bread Adventure | EldritchVania |

It's a Chinese Hollow Knight in a best way possible. They even added their own unique spin on the formula that set it apart from HK.

I have had the game since day one and I can tell you that I love everything about it. The latest update areas /enemies/bosses are amazing. I love the story of the game and the characters are so fun and lovable. This game is a true Metroidvania at it's finest. I will update this review when more content is released.

The playtime of this review represents having completed all the content currently available in progression. Given the state of abilities and powers Ive acquired versus the amount of slots there are left for all these things, I suspect that at least a quarter if not a third of the game is done. At this point Ive got all the usual stuff, your dash, your wall jump, and your glide. Strangely enough you do get a "Roll" that you use to get through areas you have to crouch in, though I find that its not really useful for combat or general traversal. This is definitely what I would call a *Fast* Metroidvania. Your black cat protagonist Kisha has a fast base speed, enemies are jumpy and kinetic, giving a very frantic and sometimes panicky combat feel during particularly hard fights. Ive immensely enjoyed my time with the game and if your patient in the way I am I can easily recommend this in EA. At the time of writing Fatal Claw hasn't done anything super unique, but it clearly is a game made with a lot of love and you feel the care and attention to detail the devs have taken with this game throughout. Little details are what always does it for me in this genre given how saturated it is. I love when characters have their own language that they speak in dialogue or that there are just a bunch of little balls (footballs, yarn, dead rat leech things) littered around the world that you can bat around for no reason because your a Cat. Art direction is strong, the world building is interesting to uncover even if its not anything new (Post Apocalyptic world), the game has NAILED the Royal Cat aesthetic to a tee, and its very cool to see the way in particular all these anthropomorphic species are integrated into the fallen world that you explore with Cats being clearly the ruling class, Rhinos Martial servants, Owls as Magicians and Engineers etc and presumably more. There is a really strong foundation here and its nice to see that the roadmap for 1.0 is only half a year. As with all games made by furries there is a ton of effort put into this game that non-furries such as myself will appreciate.
