Fault – Milestone One is a thoughtful, well-crafted visual novel that stands out for its world-building and character-driven storytelling. The story follows Princess Selphine and her bodyguard Ritona as they navigate a mysterious new land after a sudden magical catastrophe, gradually uncovering the political and emotional threads that tie their world together. The game’s presentation is also one of its biggest strengths. The backgrounds are beautifully drawn, the character art is expressive, and the soundtrack fits perfectly with the tone of each scene. The narrative is grounded in its fantasy setting, exploring themes of responsibility, survival, and perspective without relying on excessive melodrama. There’s also an impressive level of attention to the world’s lore, which gives the story a sense of scale beyond its immediate plot. That said, the game isn’t without flaws. The pacing can feel slow in parts, particularly during exposition-heavy scenes that lean more toward world-building than plot progression. Some players may find the tone shifts — from lighthearted banter to serious emotional beats — a bit uneven. It also ends on a clear setup for the next chapter, which can leave the experience feeling incomplete on its own. Despite these drawbacks, this game is still a strong recommendation for visual novel fans who appreciate well-written dialogue, engaging characters, and a rich fantasy setting. Princess, you are too pushy with your nose in other people's business. How are you still alive? We need to leave the city or else the lack of naturally occurring mana is going to kill us. But no, you want to stay a few days and make friends.

At most, an okay game with some potential (as it seems to be the first episode of its series)? The art style looks quite amateurish, and the story-line jumps around too much, making it feel like some scenes might have been cut due to budget constraints or similar reasons. The BGM is... sometimes it barely matches the plot, while other times it just plays or stops abruptly without any connection to what is actually happening in the story. Honestly, it might be better to just mute the sound... The female lead.... she has such a weak presence that it hardly makes a difference whether she's in the story or not. In fact, if, instead, the third female character were made the protagonist, the story might actually have a stronger sense of purpose and be more coherent. Recommend as it was a gift from my friends, and it offers trading cards and steam achievements... but won't suggest buying without a decent discount.
