I haven't played for nearly enough time given the calibre of this game, but I have so much love for Gloomhaven that I just wanted to write a quick review of my experiences thus far. Firstly, I like to consider myself a fairly seasoned Gloomhaven player. I have a couple hundred hours in both the online and physical copy of the game. I have never played Frosthaven prior to this. And for the first couple hours, I just couldn't get into this game. I found it way too overwhelming character wise and the missions were way too hard for us to complete. So right off the bat, if you are new to the franchise, I would not start with Frosthaven. It is noticeably the more difficult of the two games, even for someone who knows the basics. Gloomhaven does a much better job at easing you into the game mechanics and the character decks and synergies are much easier to grasp. After picking it up and putting it back down multiple times, I have found that changing the difficulty and only picking one character to start off with while learning their deck has been the best way to ease into this game. My duo and I are starting to genuinely enjoy this game (whilst appreciating the complexity) and cannot wait to unlock new characters to work with. If you have never played a game in this series before, essentially you pick a preset character and deck. You select a personal mission for the campaign that your character solely works towards. You complete quests and while doing so, you unlock more of the map and story. Along the way, you unlock new cards and gear to personalize your experience. You also meet up and unlock new characters as you progress and can retire your character and start with a new one. This is a great group game because you actually have to sit and plan out your plays with your teammates. There are certain objectives within the scenarios that need to be met or the mission is failed. I also love how there are little encounters as your heroes journey throughout the map and they require you to make decisions as a group (with actual consequences, both good and bad). It is still in EA, but so far we have not encountered any problems. They have improved the interface in this game. The game looks more polished to me. I am appreciating some of the smaller details, like the art on the player cards and the addition of voice acting incorporated into the game. My favourite tho, is the base camp town. You now collect resources instead of gold. You use these resources to build up your town to unlock more perks to improve your party. Feels more active outside of just missions. Would def recommend this game to seasoned players, but maybe just take it at a slower pace than Gloomhaven. Just don't give up!! It gets better and I cannot wait to see what this game grows into ^_^

Note to potential buyers of this game: 1. Please remember this game is in early access and there are many things to work on / improve 2. The game is based on a pretty heavy tabletop tactical game (it is not a light game) 3. The game is hard and has a steep learning curve 4. This game is very very good, but see point 3 above 5. If you are on the fence, I suggest you wait until early access is over

With over 670 hours playing original Gloomhaven, i think I can claim to be a veteran on the subject ...not claiming i`m any good though. Of course Frosthaven is in the Early access stages and we all know there`s gonna be bugs, perfection takes along time to achieve... so Devs take your time and make it good, the fans will be here ! It Feels like The Core of Frost is based on the original Gloomhaven layout, took me a little while to get accustomed to the changes and the feel of the game , but you can tell its gonna grow into a monster of a game ! I would recommend the game if you know your way around the Gloomhaven original, but also its worth the time and effort to learn and is even better when you can play Multi player.

So far it seems great. Lots of QoL improvements. I especially like being able to click a model and open a window with all the important information. Even better is being able to click the cards and have the the main icons shown and listed how they work. In the same screen, hovering over the smaller icons shows you what they do as well. Thus far, this seems like everything I was expecting and hoping for in this next iteration of 'Haven' game. While I have not gotten far into it, I am liking what I see thus far. Remember too, that currently there is only about 1/3 of the content in the game. Now someone do a PC version of Isofarian Guard!!

Steamdeck user here. Running great with Proton Experimental. Startup still took a minute though. Had to adjust resolution, too.
