I'd say it's worth buying on sale, at least 50% off. While the graphics and artstyle are cool, I feel like the gameplay loop is mostly repetative. Worse is the fact that the items all just buff stats without really changing how the characters play. At least with ROR2, most early-game items fundamentally alter your gameplay in different ways; some completely transforming certain skills into others. Enemies and levels are also kinda generic without any real gimmicks or strategy beyond "shoot til it dies." On the positive side, I do really love the setting. The gameplay is very smooth and everything feels good, the controls feel really nice. Killing enemies never feels that satisfying, not like other games like Binding of Isaac or Risk of Rain. Even Megabonk, which I personally have gripes with is probably snazzier and generally has a less generic style than Gatekeeper. If you want something to spend your time on that's kind of cookie cutter generic, but also doesn't feel like trash to play, Gatekeeper is pretty solid as an option.
great game imo. want more items/artifacts and maybe more to do. also those who have a hard time with immortals, try to unlock and use fissure. immortals are designed to be dealt with by usage of fissure. if ya cant, they are slow and all u will need to do is goto one side of the map, lead em over then goto the other side and do what you need to. me and my friend if we dont got at least one fissure, we basically ignore immortals and clear the level asap. Edit: still great game i have broken with item combos(good btw) and wish there was mod support(maybe community can solve?) and hope they release a patch/update that adds either more difficulties, or a way to force the enemy spawns to be more challenging or something.
Fun to play, but don't start it if you are a completionist. There are achievements for getting "Omni suits" for each character. What they dont tell you is you have to pay 50 of those orbs per suit and it has nothing to do with actually completing it on 200%. It's pretty stupid.
