After playing this game for 2000 hours on Steam, not counting many hours spent on mobile versions, I can confidently say that Geometry Dash is my favourite game of all time. I love this game for 5 main reasons: [*]Simple gameplay with high stakes, as your character moves through the levels automatically and you only need to control when it jumps, but if it hits just one obstacle, it dies and you have to restart the level from the very beginning! This creates a frustrating yet addictive experience, and it makes you want to try and try again, because you know where you messed up, and since the gameplay is so basic, you know what to do next time to get a little further into the level! Besides that, the game has a lot of level objects, from orbs that make you jump in the air when you click them, portals that change character's gravity and speed, to different character gamemodes, which change their jump to flight, switching gravity, teleporting and so on, and it all makes the gameplay fresh in every level so you won't get bored. [*]Strong sense of progression, because in a hard game such as this, you will clearly see your growth in skill, not in basic statistic, but in the levels you completed. At first, you are going to complete the easiest of levels, but eventually you'll move onto harder and harder ones. You will notice then how much confidence you have to complete the levels you previously feared. This brings a truly satisfying feeling, more than simply completing a game - you become skilled and confident enough to take on harder challenges. This sense of progression is further supported by showing you the amount of stars and demons, the hardest levels of the game, on your account. Additionaly, many icons for your character can only be unlocked by completing harder challenges, and by seeing how many icons you unlocked, you can see how far you've come in this simple game about jumping over spikes. [*]Amazing level editor, which is THE selling point of Geometry Dash! This is the thing that gives truly limitless potential for the game, as I believe this is one of the best level editors in the game industry. Any object can be moved to any part of the grid, any object can be rotated to any degree you'd like, and any object can even be scaled by X and Y axis. This gives you a lot of potential for decoration in your levels! Besides that, level editor lets you place triggers, which manipulate the level in different ways. They can do something simple, like move objects or change their colors, and can do something drastic, like check collision or remember certain data. Triggers are what allow determined creators to change the level from a simple autoscroller to different game genres! And just when you think it can't get any better, the editor allows to use a vast majority of songs to be played in the level, like music from popular creative website Newgrounds.com, music from popular electronic music label NoCopyrightSounds, and a large music library from songs of various music composers! There are certain limits to this level editor, but as the creators push the limits of the game, the editor expands every update, bringing new features to create unbelievable levels! [*]Passionate community, because a good level editor isn't the only ingredient for a timeless game. Without the passionate community, that learned how to push the game and it's level editor to the limits, GD wouldnβt have come so far! This community is truly amazing, continuously supporting the game by creating artistic masterpieces, that sync with the song perfectly, that have beautiful decorations, and that have fun gameplay. Yeah, not all levels are this perfect, and you will find yourself disagreeing with many players, but this doesn't take away from the fact that this community loves the game very much to still keep it alive. Not only the creator side of the community is awesome, a big part of the playerbase are challenging themselves to the hardest levels in the game, which keeps raising the bar of difficulty of this already hard game! [*]Passionate creator, Robert Topala, who has been working on this game all by himself since 2013, clearly showing how much he loves his game and its community. Not only is he working on the game itself, he continuously supports it by rating new community levels, running creator contests and sometimes interacting with the community directly. RobTop really is my favourite game developer, and he is a living proof that you can have a successful and fulfilling life by creating a game that everybody likes, which inspires me to try and become a game developer myself. However, Geometry Dash is not perfect, like any other game. It has some significant flaws, like security issues, many bugs ranging from annoying to gamebreaking, outdated rating system, and, worst of all, slow updates. And yet, most of these problems could be fixed if RobTop hired more people to work on the game and didnβt have to do it alone. I know I just praised RobTop for being so passionate about his game, but the problem is, heβs just one developer. GD is way bigger now than it used to be years ago, and itβs obvious that RobTop struggles to have time for everything. I hope one day he will realise that him working alone will mostly harm his game in the long run. Nevertheless, these flaws donβt ruin the game at all, as in my experience they rarely mattered. And when you don't encounter them, you get a game with limitless amount of artistic and challenging levels for just $4.99! You don't need to purchase any extra dlc or microtransactions to get the full experience, and that in my opinion makes Geometry Dash one of the best deals on the market! Finally, Geometry Dash means a lot to me personally. Ever since childhood, this game has caught my attention, when me and my classmates were very engaged with this game on our mobile devices and all tried to complete the main levels for glory! And after all this time, after I grew up, finished school and went to university, this game is still with me, still mostly the same, but growing, just like me. And I still find people who play Geometry Dash together on their mobile devices, continuing the trend of beating the levels for glory in their class. Seeing this makes me smile everytime, because I remember that Geometry Dash is still alive and well even after 12 years already, and not going to die anytime soon! So thank you, Geometry Dash! Thank you for everything that you've done for my life :)
