OK, I slept on it and came back another day to try again.. I learned a few things and am enjoying the game past four-skull difficulty. If you have a lv2 gladiator and your other gladiators are lv4-5, you don't train it up.. it'll die in battle and earn 0xp. You just have to sell it and buy a higher leveled one. Also remove the equipment away from the gladiator before you sell it or they will take it with them. The main way to earn materials is from championships; have enough gladiators to field a team and beat a few fights on the easier difficulty and then try to get in at least one fight of each of the other difficulties to maximize item drops.. but even if you make it through only three fights, you'll still get rewards for those three fights. A lot of things are not explained properly in-game and it can be very frustrating at times. Once you figure out what you're supposed to be doing and not doing, it's a fun little battle-team manager. I really like the voice acting and art direction. - (original review at 2.5 hrs) The first two hours of the game were honestly fun. I liked managing the gladiators and setting up battles and dealing with gladiators needing rest and equipping them. The voice acting well done and the dialogue is humorous without being obnoxious. After the second hour, however, the game switches it up and goes into infinite-difficulty mode. There is no way to earn gladiator experience or gather resources because every single battle will pit you against foes that your team has no way of beating. Go to the arena and it's 1v1 a lv5 fighter when your highest is lv4. The quests are 1v3 pitchfork wielders that stun your one fighter, nonstop.. or go 4v6 against heavily armored knights with ranged backing them up. Once you get to four-skull difficulty, the game isn't fair, it isn't fun and there is no way to progress. There are no weaker fights to gather experience for your gladiators. If you take weak or under-leveled units into fights, they just die without learning 1xp of knowledge. This game has so much polish, I just wish they play-tested it more so they could see their difficulty could use balance and there should be a way to initiate weaker fights to gather experience and resources for the stronger ones.

Sometimes you buy a game because you’re in the mood to manage a team of gladiators. And sometimes you buy it because you’re avoiding doing your laundry. Either way, Gladiator Guild Manager is a fun little game. The concept is easy to understand — you build a team of fighters, you make them punch and zap each other in small arenas, and then you do it again, but with slightly fancier boots. The campaign gives you a nice reason to keep playing. The endless mode is there if you want to feel like you’re doing something impressive, even though it’s mostly just numbers going up. There was a bug after an update that deleted my entire roster… except for two guys who became completely unstoppable. Kind of like when my boss downsized my department, replaced everyone with much more efficient, unstoppable AI. Now I have more time to play GGM I guess. Anyway, some classes are clearly better than others. But there’s a nice sense of rock-paper-scissors balance, like schoolyard arguments or deciding what to wear outside in autumn. I chose rain coat but I draw warm sunshine again wtf This isn’t the best game you’ll ever buy. But it doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of game you pick up for a few quid, play for a weekend, and then remember two months later like an oddly specific dream. You won’t tell your friends it changed your life. But you might smile when you see it in your Steam library and think, “Oh yeah… you.” Pretty fun out of 10.

I'm having quite a bit of fun with this. I did have one crash in about 10 hours. Also maybe it's just how and where I'm at with the game, it does seem like some classes are useless since others are just too powerful to not have. I don't want to see them 'nerfed', but would love to see other classes perhaps buffed.

You can use any team composition and it will work. Gets really grindy later on when you're too high level for the weekly tournaments but not strong enough to beat the monthly tournaments or missions. So you just have to keep grinding the easy weeklies but they barely give xp to level up your dudes. I would only recommend this during a sale

Well done, auto battler, sort of short, but fun. Honestly, it's a genre that's undeserved. Think Football Manager, or F1 Manager, but for fantasy heroes and a lot faster and fluid. There's variety, fun combos, broken OP items, satisfying battles, and cool progression. It's quick, it flows well, the story and tone worked for me, graphics were sufficient. Replayability is questionable, and I have desired to go through it again to see a marginally different ending, but it was a fun rump, reasonably priced and worth the time.
