This game officially gets the award for being the game that I never thought I would love. I have a bit of a bias and usually prefer female protagonist based games, so I have avoided this one for years. I’m a cozy gamer, and there is nothing cozy about Kratos lol. Can't always judge a book by its cover tho, because this has hands down become my favourite action-adventure game. It’s the father and son interactions throughout the game that completely won me over. I was expecting a brutish, cold hearted, stoic character whom I would hate. And whilst he is some of those things, I particularly found myself drawn to Kratos's honesty and blunt nature. While he may not show it in conventional ways, you can tell he loves his son as he tries to guide and train him throughout the game. You get to witness the growth of the relationship between him and "boy", awkward moments and all. I found myself living for the scenes when Kratos would share more about himself with his son, esp story telling time on the boat. The story and combat are equally engaging. I thought I was walking into a hack and slash but there is the most perfect balance between fighting, lore/exploration and puzzles. You fight as Kratos but his son is there as an active sidekick, and you get to build on both of their toolkits. I love how you aren't overwhelmed with side quests and filler. There is never a dull moment or that feeling of stale repetitiveness. You can adjust the difficulty as needed and it plays very well on the deck. Just all around top notch gaming. I have never ran so fast to a steam sale in all my life for the second installment. Even if it wasn't on sale, I was picking it up. Really hoping for remakes of the original so I can experience how it all started *fingers crossed* Update: I usually hate side quests but there is extensive lore and backstory to uncover by exploring the map. You get so much dialogue by travelling on the Lake of Nine, it’s actually becoming my favourite part of the game. Peak exploring experience!!

As a father, I can only say that the most unrealistic part of the game is that, at no point in the adventure, Atreus triggers the Spartan Rage of Kratos
