If you liked the original Motorsport Manager game... well... this is pretty much the same game. :P Not bad just not much depth. Nice art style. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't save after practice/qualifying so you pretty much have to play for an hour at a time. Steam needs a "Neutral" recommendation. It's an ok time filler..

I almost passed on this one. I've played Motor Sport manager and F1 Manager, and I didn't see what this game offered that those games didn't already do or better. But I like the developer, and have enjoyed their other games, so I took a shot anyways. Really glad I did. I don't know how or why what they've done works better than those other two games, but I actually enjoy playing this one. Like, it's just lighter and more enjoyable. The theme just feels good. - Can we get more statistical tracking? I've just started my second season but I'd like to have a little information on the previous races we've had at the tracks that are on the calendar this year. Or like a hall of trophies room or something. Just need a little more world building as we pass through seasons.

To be honest - I don't know what to write or exactly why I am enjoying this game, but I am. I have about 32 hours of clicking and managing my drivers around the corners to push or to relax, plus doing pit, tire and fuel strategies. I've read quite a lot of other reviews (positive and negative), and while I agree with even some criticism of what era of racing is being simulated, or what is left out.... this is what I was after. A sit down and manage relaxing time in front of my safe space (PC), without the need to invest too much time in understanding what parts is actually being simulated. So although this is a more relaxed take on the 'racing manager', this is exactly what I craved at the time. Thus I am very happy with the purchase and will continue to play untill I find I need more depth :)

This is the first time since the release of Motorsport Manager that I have truly enjoyed my time with with a racing management game. First off, if you are a Motorsport Manager fan and you're wondering why you would play Golden Lap over Motorsport Manager, here's why: - Drivers can get seriously injured or even die, and they frequently do as Golden Lap is set in the 70s when F1 was extremely dangerous. This feature alone sets Golden Lap apart from any other racing management sim. It makes the stakes feel significantly higher and every decision you make carries more weight as a result. - Though Golden Lap isn't as in depth as Motorsport Manager, it makes up for it by being a bit faster paced. You may have less decisions and less sessions but the decisions and sessions that you partake in carry more weight. - Great interface. Again, this is simpler than Motorsport Manager but it is really intuitive and well designed. - Though simple, the art style and sound does a pretty good job of immersing you in the action. When you hear the sound of a car crashing you do actually feel that anxiety for a split second while you check if it's one of your drivers. Motorsport Manager is still the king in terms of depth but Golden Lap offers something unique and is easily worth the full asking price. As for the F1 Manager series, it may be more visually appealing but Golden Lap is much better in terms of balance, polish, and overall fun. This one is a must buy, we need more games like these.

TLDR: I'm very much enjoying this game as a simplified racing manager game, but it's VERY easy right now. I've spend well over 1000 hours in modern racing sim games (over 900 in Motorsport Manager alone), and I've played at least a handful of these more simplified games looking for something basically just like this for when I don't feel like spending a couple hours on a race in MM. The only feature I think is missing here that these simplified racing games should probably have is the ability to set tire strategies and sim a race, but you can get through these races pretty quickly anyway so it's not a big deal. My only real issue with Golden Lap is that there's just no difficulty to the career mode. I took the worst team at the start, finished sixth season one, third season two, and now win each race with only my cars on the lead lap early in season three. If there was any struggle at all... say it took five years to go from 10th to 1st instead of two years... I'd think this was a nearly perfect little simplified racing sim.
