11k+ hours on the game, mainly in wvw and pvp (i dont play it on steam but thought i'd leave a review here). it's literally the best game combat wise ive ever played, hands down. better than deadlock, better than marvel rivals. Why? cuz it's given me dopamine loops like no other game has. Now when I play deadlock... not enough abilities. 4 isn't enough. When i play rivals, same thing plus no dodge rolling. When i play smite, same complaint as Rivals. When I play stadium in OW i think "wtf am i doing with my life" and go back to gw2 pvp. Wow style mmos... timing mini rhythm games that look like massive excel spread sheets. Animations are too limited. Plus no dodge rolls. Bdo? pay to win, plus the combat is too finicky and twitchy. Maybe Eso can compete but i haven't tried it yet. Basically the combat spoiled me, and i can't enjoy any other action game now lol. It's not for everyone though. You'll either fall in love or hate it it (or both). And i hate living world with a passion. The story is toothless and made by guild wars 1 fanfiction writers who have way too much sway over the company. If you truly want to experience the game (despite it technically being f2p), you really should have an expac. If for no other reason, just so you can experience a powercrept specialization in a class so you can see how fun combat can be. You don't need to play any pve at all to enjoy pvp either, and don't need to gear up your toon in pve to play pvp which is massive. Every other mmo should be like this and basically none are. This game is proof that if you just get the combat right and making it fun people like me will spend a literal 1 1/2 year of my actual life no lifing your ♥♥♥♥ and not regretting any of it. Even if all of that time was doing the same ♥♥♥♥ over and over. 9/10

Easily the best MMO out there, easy to get into, walk away when you want, come back when you want. The game doesnt implement gear creep so your max level gear is always max level, builds may change so you may have to respec. Extremely friendly and helpful community. ArenaNet has some questionable balance and QoL patches sometimes, but most companies do. Buy DLCs on sale if possible, the game is awesome.

Okay look, I've played WoW for 20 years. To be fair, I did play GW2 back when it released and was on Arena Net servers only for a few months and was underwhelmed. I was bored just doing M+ in WoW and Legion Remix might be fun, but the content gating was not super interesting to me right now. I decided to pick GW2 back up because of the Autumn Sale and boy let me tell you I am glad I did. Getting back into the world was easy enough but a bit overwhelming due to the vastness of the game. If you enjoy MMO's, this feels so much larger, lived in and man it's gorgeous! The maps, associated content, masteries, special events are fantastic. Hours of content in each zone, great stories, great side quests, so many world events its insane, you can customize almost everything in the game- I was so surprised and awestruck! I've now spent more time (and money in the Trading Post haha) in GW2 over the past 2-ish weeks (91 hours at the time I'm writing this) than I have in WoW in the last 3 months. If you're a fan of MMO's you will not be let down. I'm so happy that the World is so large and content rich. Big bonus - older content you do still is relevant to player power and economy, and mounts can be recolored WHAT! NOTE: I write this from a PvE experience only. I have not had an opportunity to play the PVP content at all so I cannot remark on the state of that play type. _If you're on the fence - the base game is F2P - try it.. then get immersed and prepare to have one of the better MMO experiences ever!

great mount system, unlocks that feel meaningful. stuff is always relevant and actively farmed, the best fishing game built into an mmo. real talk though, the "meta events" are some the best stuff I have seen in an mmo, makes ithe game world feel so alive in a time where games like ff14, a game I sink ungodly amounts of time into never even bother with and only mess with as a side thing. I haven't touched much of instanced fractals or raids yet but based off my dabbling of the games core fight mechanics from said meta events, I can say I don't think it will match the heights of say, ff14 raiding. but it doesn't need to. on it's own its a very fun side mmo that can be more than that if you want it to it seems. the sandbox-esque design of its open world structure more than make up for the weaker combat encounters and make me yearn for more open world style content in games like ff14 more and more.

I have played exclusively on my steam deck, once you adjust the button layout to suit your preference (which is a whole chore, but worth doing) then you will enjoy a massive and beautiful open world MMO, with the engaging action combat and an ample amount of content even if you play a free to play account. This game respects the players time in a way that no other game truly does, and it is absolutely worth it to try the game for free.
