As a fan of both shmups and roguelikes, this game tickled my fancy in just the right way. For what I paid for it, I feel like I definitely got the good end of the bargain. If you're into this kind of thing, you really, really, can't go wrong here.

Excellent game, try not to let the games simplicity fool you, this is a unique type of shmup where you don't have a fire button and weapons and abilities charge, you move around the level and position yourself to shoot down as many objects and enemies as possible to level up and upgrade your ship with a myriad of weapons and utilities. There is a ton of combinations and other things to explore that it will keep you playing for a very long time. The graphics are really good, and the controls are smooth, and as far as difficulty goes, remember that it will not hold your hand, you have to be patient and move carefully to make every shot count. You do have different controls like the GamePad mouse and keyboard, but I prefer to use the keyboard because it's very instant. The only falls I can think of is that we could use more customization on the ships and some parts of the game are tough. Highly recommended if you love shmups and want a good comfort shooter where you can only worry about moving! Can't wait for gunlocked 2!

TLDR: Vampire survivors in space, with incredible depth and a great array of weapons that synergize with utlities, or even go symbionic after the 10min mark. The synergies between your weapons, augments, utilities and their upgrades gives this game so much depth, I am only like 40% of the way after unlocking endless mode. 🎶 En:Vy R2D2 🎶 : I actually love this game, and playing some DnB gets me new high scores pretty repeatedly; But paying attention to the sounds in-game ; without their soundtrack is exactly what i needed to take it even further; This game is brilliant, and addictive. The many pilots come with their weapons, which any pilot can get during a run. But then you get 3 other weapons to pick up, as you level up, and they can work in synergy with your main weapon, or fix what your pilot's main weapon does not target. [Kudos to the reminders on the GUI when choosing level-ups as to what synergies CAN work with either the utility, or weapon]. You also get 4 utilities and 4 other run-modifiers called augments which are chosen before you start a run. The main game: Spawn in to destroy enemies while dodging asteroids [till you're strong enough to destroy them] Pick up the gems that enemies drop which is your currency to level-up. Each level up gives you 3 items to choose from until you max out your total utilities and weapons. Then you can upgrade each of these until you're fully upgraded, and it becomes a bit easier. [You get 2 re-rolls each upgrade and can acquire more via augments]. Upgrades can include weapon and/or utility upgrades. But as a level continues, boss after boss, you get swarmed over and over again. Then some enemies get shields too. The enemy bosses spawn in 5 minute intervals, so the ability to specialize in all your weapons, or utilities by the first boss is almost impossible, but varied runs will be different, :) it's brilliant. It's an amazing gameplay loop and the Retry, or quit to menu to change after is so brilliant, that repeating a run with the same pilot, and modifiers is so quick and easy to repeat. You get a high score per level, and can see when you beat the previous one live, while playing. Easy mode = 50% score cut, and you get 6 re-rolls. q This is an epic game to take away everything you know about standard twin stick shooters and let the system work for you; :) I feel like it's innovative, and full of great surprises, as you won't ever play the same builds twice [not for the first many hours at least]. Enjoy the in-game abilities reading as taking note of this in the beninging to learn the different weapons and utilities will get you very far into the late game as you keep learning new synergies, or what works best with what weapons. Spoiler: 10.5 hours in, i played 7 hrs no in-game sound, and then finally, put 1 bar of sound FX, soundtrack off; not my type of ear ache. DnB is what i need to flourish here. Planning to beat it ASAP :p but it's really hard. I'm still on level1; 3 more remaining :D I have beaten level 1 after 12 hrs, and the random of this game is that there's so many weapons and utilities that getting the 4 you want repeatedly is difficult. You need to beat the games 4 levels to unlock Endless mode, 20 min for achievement; :) see if your builds can take you there. The pilot variety can work with any weapons ;) it's up to your choices to define if you'll be mining asteroids for minerals, or sniping the aliens you can; :) Quick levelling: use the asteroids!

The first thing you must know is that you do not "Shoot" in this game. All your weapons fire automatically. A lot of your targeting reticles stay at fixed distances, and most weapons operate based on a timed cooldown or require you to interact with indicators that appear randomly on the screen. All you focus on is your mobility and your dodging. The game is fun at the beginning as you work on unlocking more pilots and more abilities known as "Augments", but as you finish those and move onto the late-game, the problems begin to show. Even by roguelike standards, the amount of luck required for you to survive in the late-game (Especially on Endless Mode) borders on ridiculous. Weapons and passive (Known as "Utilities") are either very good, or not good at all. Often times you will find yourself in situations where you could level up two or three times and not roll / reroll any helpful weapon or utility that compliments what you have to the point where it will literally end your run since synergies between abilities are very poor and experimenting often hurts you more than it helps. Additionally, for a game that places so much emphasis on mobility, it such does like to punish the players for being mobile. More often than not, the screen is so covered in special effects that you'd be hard pressed to see where enemy shots and asteroids are. Trying to move across the stage to get a health pick-up often ends with you losing more health than actually gaining it because your enemies are many, and they can fire constantly with zero cooldowns. Overall, Gunlocked is a decently fun game that starts strong, but ultimately falls flat due to gameplay mechanics that continually ramps up the difficulty but does nothing to empower the player in the late game

This is a unique SHMUP that anyone who likes the Vampire Survivors, whacko-bonanza-tons-of-things-on-the-screen-because-I'm-so-powerful game loop will enjoy! The whole screen is put to such good use; there are so many decisions about how and where to move. Different weapon types and damage types ask you to move in different ways, and it's fun to switch your priority from focusing on close-range enemies with a shotgun style weapon, to a drone in the distance that you can shoot at to cause AoE damage. I was initially put off because I worried that the upgrade system would be too obtuse, but once you're into your second play session, you'll start to understand how the weapons/drones/upgrades generally fit together. (A tip for newcomers: just start with the second character. Her ability is way easier to get used to while learning the game, as opposed to the first character, whose ability in itself is a little frustrating to use effectively.) Feedback: I don't know if the devs read these comments, but I have a few bits of feedback that I think could improve the game! 1. When the player unlocks a new charge-based ability, it'd be nice if it was immediately fully charged, just so that I can immediately see the effect of the new weapon I just got, and it'd be a nice reward for leveling up. 2. As I mentioned earlier, I think the second character's starting weapon is more straight-forward, and it gives the new player more space to learn the upgrade system without thinking about moving in a counter-clockwise circle. 3. When an upgrade in the upgrade menu is displayed, there's a whole bunch of icons at the bottom which show what it synergizes with. A nice quality of life feature would be if the items I already have were highlighted (and perhaps even put to the front of the list), so I can quickly tell at a glance how much a new upgrade will synergize with my current kit. 4. When standing in a spot that needs to charge (an upgrade spot, etc.), a number shows up and counts up to 100. Just to increase visual clarity, it'd be nice if there was a circle/pie chart that was filling up underneath it, just to make it more clear at a glance. 5. Similarly, the UI elements are quite small in full screen. In the main game, the health bar and the charging meters for each of the abilities are so small that I don't have time to read it (which may be the intent, but I just thought I'd mention it). 6. Finally, (and this could totally just be my problem), but the font is strangely unreadable. Specifically when reading the upgrade descriptions, they're quite large, and every letter is evenly spaced, so I find it hard to read the words quickly.
