TL;DR: The game is in essence a blend of JRPG and strategy game. Player controls a space station and sends fleets to perform various tasks. While station part is very strategic, with base building, combat is in JRPG fashion. NOTE: Even though game has Native Linux client, I had some weird glitches with the native Linux client when using menus, instead I have used a proton 9. Played on Linux Mint 22.2 with GTX1650 and RTX3070. It is a fun game where player is introduced to the plot from the get go - there is weird alien alive fleet which threatens everyone in the sector. Player is tasked to defend last operational space station for the Federation named Halcyion 6, engage in minor diplomatic relations with other alien factions and defeat menacing alien fleet Chrul. There is a simple yet effective resource management. I am a bit disappointed that when I have defeated pirates, I couldn't mine resources which were in their area. The base itself is something like old X-Com or modern Fallout mobile base building. Each room has it's purpose and takes time. Some of them require officer to handle it. Occasionally enemy aliens will spawn in certain rooms and player must have at least one available officer to defeat them. Speaking of combat, there are 2 types: ground combat and space combat which are having the same mechanics but different attack types. In that regard, officers have dedicated space combat and ground combat skills and their talents for progressing. It might be weird that leveling up officer and assigning a skill point on the talent tree where ground combat and space combat talents are intertwined. Perhaps it would be better to separate them as right now, player might go trough a ground combat talent to reach space combat talent. In essence, these talents unlock additional abilities which player can inflict an effect while making damage and other member in player's team can exploit that effect to deal a higher damage. At first it won't be that obvious but later, player will be able to exploit effect, make higher damage and inflict new effect on the enemy which other team member can exploit. I mention 'team member' which can be an officer in the ground combat or a ship in space combat. Space combat is dominant but from time to time ground combat happens and without some investment in ground combat skills, officers can be killed. Combat has always the same structure of maximum 3vs3 clash. Player should always have 3 members on their side. Also, player should progress with tiers and unlocking additional abilities. In essence it is preferable to have 1 good space combat fleet, one fleet for building mining outposts and several officers in the base to perform various tasks. However, number of available officers is limited with a level so it is balanced in that way not to easily snowball the content. The last fight is against same enemy with less "flesh" on the enemy however, due to the situation with the menus, it is important for player to read the tasks (even the boring ones) as they provide hints what to do. Being on a good terms with alien factions is highly recommended (I advise you to reject rewards when you can for diplomacy points and take only mandatory gifts)! Flaws: apart from that mentioned glitches with the native Linux client I had another issue: if I would have 2 fleets where one fights and defeats the enemy, other fleet is there to extract the artefact, combat starts with the second fleet where defeated enemies with 0 health are attacking this second fleet yet enemies themselves are not targetable! Game runs smoothly and the only thing I would complain about is the missing things in the UI. It would be better to have indication if outpost have improvements in a visual format (as in has drone / doesn't have drone, has higher capacity upgrade, doesn't have it). Right now, it is written text as in 'Automation" and only when player clicks can see which upgrades are installed which is a bit tedious. Certain events can spam the player. During space combat, it would be useful to know which abilities are available for other ships and plan attacks and their cooldowns. All in all, I recommend this game. A real indie gem.

It's cute, it's fun, it's XCOM meets Advance Wars in space. And unlike XCOM, you can make mistakes and recover from them. If you made one wrong move in XCOM the whole mission was ruined and possibly your whole playthrough. This game is more forgiving.

I've had this combo of XCOM (you have teams of soldiers you send a round a map under a time limit) and Star Trek/Babylon 5 (your main base of operations is a starbase in space, you send teams of greenshirts to different planets who mostly die horribly lol) on my Steam account for a while and finally got around to playing it. It was alright--I beat it on the third highest difficulty in about three days and 18.6 hours, so its not too substantial and thus I'm not leaving a lengthy review. But the pixel graphics were nice, the humor is pleasant enough, though some may find it grating, and it kept me occupied for all those hours, so I'll recommend it. However, its somewhat poorly balanced, IMO: The strategic side is pretty easy, I had essentially unlimited resources by the end of the second in-game chapter, while the final boss is the closest thing to a real challenge I had. And this was on the third-highest difficulty, mind you. Also, you should have an option to disable notifications for the repeating tasks you can set on your starbase, it's ridiculous they didn't think of that. But I got nearly 20 hours worth of fun outta this, so like I said, I'll recommend it.

It's combat is simple enough to get yet complicated enough to get REALLY tactical with it. After owning the game for years, it's still fun to go back and play again.

It's a great game! If you like the base building and meta progress of XCOM, and rock paper scissors type of turn-based RPG combat you'll like this game.
