Half-Minute Hero is a really different sort of RPG. It has all of the hallmarks - maps to explore, towns and villages with NPCs, randomly-generated battles and different equipment to find, purchase and equip. But this game doesn't have time for meticulous planning or turn-based battles - you have a 30-second timer counting down to the end of the world at the beginning of every stage! Okay, maybe that's not entirely true. Whenever you enter towns, the timer stops ticking down. This means you'll spend a portion of your time fighting monsters for gold and XP on the map, and then retreat to villages to heal up, buy supplies, and plan on what you'll do upon returning to the map. There's also goddess statues in certain towns that you can pay a fee to reset the 30-second timer again. But every time you use a goddess statue, the cost of doing so again will increase! Many of the game's stages have some special gimmick or feature, and there are usually multiple different ways you can beat a level. You'll probably want to replay stages, too, because they often have different titles you can earn depending on things you do or don't do in the level. You can also only get certain pieces of equipment by beating stages in different ways. Newer equipment can't be brought with you to previous stages... Since you didn't have that equipment yet at the time. But different instances of equipment found on each level can all be brought along forward to future levels. Along the way you'll run into tons of "monster-of-the-week"-esque baddies who are bent on destroying the world, and lots of random NPCs who you chat with once and then never again. But every once in a while you'll encounter memorable party members who team up with you and eventually play a bigger role in the ongoing plot. HMH is an innovative and unique little game, and also boasts all of the newer graphics and content from the XBOX Live Arcade version on the 360, while bringing back a lot of features that were dropped in that version from the PSP original. It might be the definitive version of the game? Though I'm sure some purists probably still prefer the OG game. Definitely worth a try if you like JRPGs. ...Or, maybe even if you don't, since it gets rid of a lot of the features typically present in role-playing games and streamlines the process. I'll end this by saying that when I first tried a demo of the game, ages ago, I couldn't get into it. When I spent more time with it, many years later, I realized that I had really missed out on something great.

This game is one of my favorite games. The gameplay is incredible unique and offers multible ways to solve a problem, you have 30 seconds to defeat the "boss" you get to rewind but only if your careful and paying attention to the time. the soundtrack (game, what game? your telling me you DON'T just stay in the main menu listening to the BANGER of the song) it is sooo good i'd buy just for the soundtrack while beating up monsters. (not on spotify... i cry) ART, (please stick only to the pixel because that is how the game was originally meant to be played, changed in settings, i'd play Pixel first and if interested play the "remastered" after.

If you enjoy games with a Groundhog Day-like loop (e.g. Minit), comedy, and classic JRPG tropes, then you'll probably like this one. (Bonus 1000th review for this game!)

Really fun and interesting game. Make sure to play with retro visuals as not only are the redrawn graphics bad, they won't let you play the full versions of modes other than Hero 30. Also, make sure to do every mode in order. There's more story than you would expect from the initially goofy premise.
