When I started playing the game I was curiousm but I felt it was still "light" on it´s core gameplay... initially. However, I have to say that I got hooked to finish it, and did it over a long time (the way I enjoy gaming :) ) Interesting formula of mixed mini-games that are triggered by event cards. Cards are hidden in the board, and you reveal them one by one and solving each event before continue. You navigate the board game of cards with a token/avatar of you, and solve those events with certain decisions or by winning/loosing the mini-games. Your character relies on it´s health, food and money to survive each chapter and try to solve each one in different ways. The objectives are different per chapter. There is a preparation phase where you select a companion, weapons, possible events to encounter and some specific resources. By solving each chapter you unlock further weapons, events, armor, items and more resources that can be used further on other chapters. The minigames may include combat, dices, a pendulum to stop, traps, card tricks, etc They are not very deep on their own, but they have interesting variations. Items make important differences when facing those mini-games to avoid falling into "pure luck" outcomes. The entire game is not very deep in complexity and the advantage of that is that you get it how to play early. The only downside that I can mention is that even if prepared with the adequate set of items/encounters you will fail sometimes against pure luck, but in the end is not that critical as you can recover over other encounters too. The game increases difficulty by adding more limitations, curses, and punishing you in hard ways to make you fail at some point. For example the combat is not difficult to understand, but the game will put you many times with some stronger enemies in situations that maybe you are already hurt after some previous bad encounters. So it is a struggle many times, but well planned you can balance things much better. Therefore you may end up re-starting the chapters choosing better options, is ok. The game is made in unity and works perfect in VR with mods (VorpX works wonders). I played sometimes in normal 2D and sometimes in glorious 3D stereo from VR, it looks great !! it was fun 8.5/10

very cool game! this might be the ultimate board game. Every scenario is unique, and the game throws at you seemingly random chances, but once you understand the little tricks the odds get better

Picking back up This game again after four years, and I just found out that the card draw game that other review about is actually not totally random, you can track which card goes to the top of the deck if you observe carefully, it is all about manipulating the odds to your favor, which fits the theme of the game. The RNG is just a surface.

Hand of Fate 2 does a lot of what Hand of Fate did, but way better. The lore is expanded, there is a companion system in place, and the world beyond the playing board is shown much clearer through the cards and events. This also features the return of the original Dealer from Hand of Fate, with his snarky comments, congratulatory notes and so on. Overall, I think Hand of Fate 2 is a large improvement over the first game... however, I'd also be lying if I didn't think it still held some problems. Sadly, while the combat has become more dynamic, it's still a pretty repetitive slog. If you build your character to be a Thief-killing machine only to stumble into a Northmen combat event, you won't get combat where you're desperately unprepared and on your backfoot, you're just going to have your combat lengthened by five times as you slowly chip away at the enemy. While the combat system of Batman Arkham is a nice one, I find that Hand of Fate 2 cannot mesh it well with the RPG elements, resulting in less a difficulty spike and more a length spike. Secondly, the minigames. One thing that I like is that unlike DnD, or the more brutal Darkest Dungeon, you do not fully depend on the random number generator to pass events. Even if it is quite difficult, the Card Roulette, the Card Shuffle and the Metronome can be mastered through timing, reflexes and attention... But there's also the dice game, which is fully reliant on RNG. Sure, you can stack the board by using characters and equipment to help with dice, but compared to the other minigames, the fact that this one fully depends on RNG makes me wanna rip my hair out. There's also several adventures which WILL be very frustrating, be it through repetitive crashes or simple bs difficulty. However, despite its flaws, I still think this is a sequel which improves basically everything from the original. I recommend.
