Beautiful game that I played on my steamdeck plugged into the TV with my wife watching. It played more like an animated show, rather than a game but after a long day of work I didn't mind that. It was fun, quirky and entertaining. The humour, and the delivery of the story itself was captivating and heartwarming from start to finish. We both loved the characters, and the little drawings that popped up in your notebook after each encounter. I can see this not being for everyone, but for those that like narrative heavy, walking sims this is a game to try. Humbadoo!

I love and adore this game. However, I don't think that it is a game for everyone. It is a slow game, with a lot of running around, finding stuff. It feels more like a book you can walk through than a "game". I LOVE IT! The game tells the story of a sad little man, who seems to suck at everything he does. He is pretty much a nobody at the beginning of the story. I love the story of Harold. How a sad, lonely and uninspired guy becomes someone who knows who he is and what he wants form live. I love the little storylines of the other characters, they help to make the world feel lived in. The story is quite weird but at the same time very thoughtful. You have to accept the weirdness of it all and you need to be open to the slow concept, then you can love the story as much as I do. If you don’t, you will get frustrated by the game. However, if there is the slightest chance that you could be interested in the game, pleas try it. Walk around the fedora, talk to everyone you come across and learn about their silly little lives. Follow Harold as he grows as a person and finally finds his passion, his will to live. Warning: IT THAKES A WHILE. Pleas be patient with Harold, after all in the beginning he is simply a sad little man (that I have grown really found of).

Even if I don't usually play narrative games, as I tend to prefer point-and-click adventures, I decided to give it a try anyway.... and I don't regret it! Really, is impossible not to see the work that has been put through this game. I liked the story, I liked the ambience. I can say that it even made me think about some aspects of life. I found it too slow on some parts of some chapters, but I enjoyed it anyway. Can't do anything but recommend it! Great work!

Loved, loved, loved this game. One autosave that saves frequently. Minimal puzzles and lots of dialogue, cut scenes, and exploration. This game is a beautiful piece of art, with beautiful music and voice acting and storytelling. The story made me laugh at times and a bit weepy at times. I was completely invested and enjoyed it immensely. What I got from my 15 hours of play time trying to speak to everyone and explore everything in each act was well worth the price of admission into this wonderful world.

Harold Halibut is a genuine, heartwarming story told in a clever and endearing way. Obviously, it looks great too. You already know that. I 100% recommend it. I found out about the game many years ago when a spotlight article was posted about it on the Unity website. I checked in on its development a few times every year, and bought it on release day. Even though I was intrigued from the start and this kind of game is right up my alley, I'll admit I was concerned going in. Artsy games like this are notorious for looking pretty, but having little substance in the actual story or gameplay. Now that I've played through it, I'm happy to say that Harold Halibut did not end up in that group. The gameplay is admittedly very simple, but I found myself super engaged with the story and characters, and immersed in the world. The game is super straightforward overall, with the primary objectives usually involving the player going from point A to point B, completing simple tasks and engaging in dialogue, but it really shines if you just take your time in the side objectives, and enjoy the characters. I never felt that I wanted to skip any dialogue or cutscenes because I just loved the characters so much and was genuinely interested in the story. Every single character in the game is developed with care. Everyone felt like they had a life of their own, and the story treated every one of them with respect. Even the employees of the big bad corporation were just good people doing their jobs or trying to help. Nobody's just evil just for evil's sake. I found myself growing attached to the little cast of characters, and I was always excited to see more of them. I also love how effectively it places you in Harold's shoes. I found him to be a very relatable character, and I never felt put off by the way he interacted with other characters, as I often do with the protagonists in more poorly written games. He's a simple, somewhat absent-minded man who just wants to be helpful and please everybody. he doesn't understand technology so well, so all of the interfaces with technology in the game are presented as strange incomprehensible symbols and shapes. That way, you know exactly how he feels when he has to deal with it. The menial gameplay in the beginning reflects the menial nature of his job, so you feel the same way he does about it. So much of the game is cleverly designed to make you relate directly to what it's like to be Harold. All of the love and care put into the design of the game and story makes Harold Halibut into a really unforgettable experience. It's somehow warm, cozy and nostalgic despite the cold, uninhabitable setting. It's just so darn appealing. My favorite thing about it is definitely the aliens, but I don't want to spoil any of that for those who haven't seen anything of them yet. I just resonated with every part of the game. The ending is brilliant and surprisingly effective, emotionally. And, to the developers, if you're reading: (spoilers) I just wanted to say thank you so much for this wonderful game. Like Buddy said, every person is a world unto themselves. Playing through this game, meeting all of its characters and learning their stories felt like visiting many worlds. This game reached into my world and gave a new perspective. I felt exactly how I was supposed to feel at every point in the story, so I was right there with Harold at the end, and it was great. The flumylum culture is a wonderful, enthralling thing to experience and it was deeply inspiring. It's such a beautiful world and story, and you knocked it out of the park. I'll be doing my part to recommend it to all of my friends. Weeoo is my spirit animal. Tidemo!
