As someone who has played dozens of different rougelikes, i can confidently say this is the only one that has come close to the quality and fun of Hades and Hades 2. I only have a few hours on the Steam version of the game, but I've played it on Switch for over 30 hours. The attack animations are some of the smoothest I've seen in any game, not just an indie. It's like watching a perpetually hot knife cut through all the butter in the world. The meta progression upgrades give you discounts if you get a certain achievement for each individual one, with multiple levels of a discount. A very unique aspect i have not seen in another similar game So if you repeat an action a lot, you can buy an upgrade or weapon or spell for super cheap, and if not, you just pay a regular price, so it's a nice little bonus. The story is told in a compendium as you play runs, the same way Hades is done. Even though there is no voice acting, the writing, characters, and story are absolutely hilarious, and the lore is beyond clever. the different spells, special attacks, and main weapons are very fun and very different from each other, which adds so much to replayability. The music is super relaxing and catchy. the elevator music that plays between each floor should be the hold music for all phone calls we make in real life. So if you are a fan of Hades or Dead Cells or anything similar, you need to play this game. It may be nowhere near as popular as those games, but its quality, animation, audio, fun, and especially writing, matches (and in some way exceeds) the best of the genre.

Excellent roguelike game! I liked the game very much, I played almost 280 hours, but I admit, a lot of time was spent on knocking out the trophy for collecting all the Curses in the game - here the developers clearly overdid it, BUT this did not spoil the overall impressions - I liked everything in the game, the gameplay, music and voice acting, funny texts, visual component, a huge selection of weapons, curses, spells, cloaks, cool battles with Bosses, etc. I recommend it to all fans of sandboxes! P.s. I hope for a sequel, or I'm waiting for a new project from the developers!

good game. not for me. Its a damn shame, the combat feels so varied but because they are so stingy with hp and heals or dmg redux of any kind (also no parry and very tight iframe window on dodge that has cooldown flies you across screen which often makes it more a of detriment than a blessing) the whole thing quickly becomes about not getting hit once or your dead on anything the boss does. Most good upgrades reduce the already piss poor survivability and for what? 30% overall dmg because everything is tied to a billion conditions. Getting new weapons and spells as "progression" doesn't matter if the most annoying part of the game is the same throughout. Also generally don't know how this is a rogue lite, there is no permanent power gained thats even remotely substantial from run to run. The stages are pretty much the same and not particularly hard-- its a weird balance where mobs feel easy af no matter what and bosses just feel cheap just because any hit they do takes over half your hp so u have to die over and over to have chance at adapting. In fact, now that I think on it its like Dark Souls which is shit at how player combat interacts with bosses. Same thing here "This is what we want out boss to fight like" and "This is what we want our players to fight with" and no one thought about how the two interact. Its a pass for me, the visuals and animations are probably my favorite out of any other 2d game I've played.

This is a solid roguelite in a similar vein as Dead Cells or Rogue Legacy with a cool sense of style and a morbid sense of humor. It is really for people who are into platforming and 2d combat with hard-hitting bosses. And the workplace drama is great. The game itself is fun to play. You start each run from the beginning each time, like a rougelite. And while you can choose the level path you take, it is always the same choices in the same order to change floors each time. While that may seem limiting it does lend itself to making builds, as you know which bosses you will be facing and in which order. The builds have a lot of room to explore in them. There are a wide variety of items to unlock in terms of basic scythes, spells, and cool-down "cloak" abilities. In addition to that, there are three skill trees to build through each run focused on offense, defense, and spells. All of these things are given to you randomly as you proceed through certain checkpoints in a run, so it stays fresh. Though the randomness can make it hard to pre-plan a build. Fair warning, I am writing this review after getting the "Finish the Game" achievement. According to steam about 3% of players actually get that. I can sort of see why. Initially the game goes through the Modern Warfare department. But after finishing that once there are a coupe of new areas. And then after finishing that there is a new secret boss that you have to take a few in-run penalties to reach, and finish the normal game to access. It seems easy for folks to not know that there is more game. All together this took me 20 hours according to the in-game clock. My only real gripe with the game is that a full run takes 45 minutes to an hour. Trying to learn the later bosses can take a fair amount of time just to reach them to check them out again, and bosses are the main difficulty spike in the game. Dead Cells solved this problem with a practice mode to fight the bosses with and this game would benefit from something like that.
