At the current state HellSlave 2 can be extremely fun, but lacks a lot of basic QOL, which are: - no key rebinding - movement with mouse is bad - only 2 volume options (I like the soundtrack but VFX as juicy as they are, are extremely loud when stacked and you can either change all volume or music volume) - general ui problems like no 'loot all' option - escape doesn't open menu for some reason - no manual saves/no way to turn off autosave, no quicksave - no explanation how dodge, misses and hits work. You have 30% hit bonus, enemy has 20% dodge. You will still miss a lot. - demonic path (unique ultimate ability essentially) is a permanent choice, which is fine in general, but the preview is bad. Let me check the whole progression of it or at least let me manually save before making such an important choice There are a lot of things like that, but since there are many, it affects the enjoyment to say the least. Either story or translation are awfully written and most dialogs are: - I'm here to meet my friend - your friend? - yes he is my friend, his name is Hraban - he was captured - where he was taken, I'm gonna save him And so on and so forth. The saving graces here are the setting itself, absolutely stunning art, great soundtrack, very enjoyable combat and fine progression system. Itemization system becomes boring as heck after an hour. You are swarmed with garbage items which do not provide almost any benefit too your class. Later on the game will teach you to slot gems in equipment slot, which share the same small inventory and again boring as heck as you do not need melee damage on mage and vice versa. To get decent items you have to spam reroll button in the trade menu in a small hope something useful will be sold after a dozens of rerolls. Another underwhelming part is that the demonic path abilities scale really bad and some upgrades barely change anything. All that lead to the fact that after early game literally nothing spices up the gameplay sadly. No new intricate systems or clever mechanics. Not to mention that enemies scale much faster than you do since half of your ability has absolutely useless level scaling instead of your magical power for example. Also later you will be taught to get special loot from elite enemies, but only if ur level is close to theirs. I was always above 1-3 levels even tho I didn't specifically farm anything, so it led to me having only 1 after hours since the feature has become available. If you are looking for a dungeon crawler and you can overcome the jank - try the demo at least. At any other case I would probably wait for the fixes myself and buy it later, especially since almost none of the demo feedback was implemented. But in the current state of the world and gaming industry, passionate developers deserve some love, especially solo developers. That is why I'm keeping this game despite its major shortcomings and even writing this review to support it even further. I just hope the dev will take a day or two off and then implement the feedback and fix the most annoying issues and make item system and gems more interesting than they currently are.

Works perfectly on Steamdeck except for some minor issues navigating the UI. I'm really enjoying it.

Ever since I got first Hellslave on steam for free and got hopelessly hooked on it for few days I've been waiting for the second one. Now it's here and I'm happy to say it's improvement in pretty much every aspect and I've been loving it so far. It's great game made by tiny developer with no AI and is absolutely worth the price and deserving of far more clout than it gets. Some major improvements from the first game: - More tactical and fun combat with more options - Bigger and better maps with more freedom - More RPG elements and quests - Better itemisation - More dialogues and lore And same as the first one there's still amazing very stylish artwork and great soundtrack.
