Honestly, Anvil Game Studios might be one of the best developers out there. This game has never "exploded" in player numbers. In fact, they just hit their highest count after the console release, with 6,500+ players. Before that, it was "only" 3,419 according to SteamDB. That makes it even more amazing that after 8 years (3 in Early Access, 5 since full release), they're still working hard and updating a game that only costs €19.99. This game lives through its community, especially the regiments and organized line battles, but this is only possible because AGS fosters an environment where the community can thrive. So hats off to AGS for actually caring. Keeping an indie multiplayer game with comparatively low player numbers, one that is frankly dirt cheap and only sells cosmetic DLCs, alive is an amazing feat and should be an inspiration for many other devs.

When you start this game, you usually find yourself exclusively with just two servers, but they're almost always full. No one takes this game very seriously, but there are private servers where they do. However, it's clear that its community is deeply united and doesn't play to give their all (although, interestingly, they still strive to win), but rather to have a relaxed time and kill each other while chilling: there's disorder, chaos, senseless shouting, people playing music (all of which can be muted, by the way), but with all of that always in a playful and fun atmosphere. Honestly, this game is what you see online. It's what I expected. Its community, though small, is incredibly friendly and fun. I'm very grateful for the game. The developers clearly understand their audience, and their audience understands the developers.

Join a round. Redneck is talking strats. Eurobro is asking what everyone is drinking. Cartman is ranting about something. Morale improves as Rick Astley serenades the troops. Get hit by a stray musketball (pretty sure they were aiming at Cartman). 10/10 historical experience. Just like Napoleon would've wanted it.

A full grown man screamed UWU in my ear over and over while we got slaughtered by french infantry, playing as the Prussians trying to defend some fort in the wilderness. 10/10

It's a game for gentlemen scoundrels, and manbaby trolls in equal measure. You can be charging into a gripping fight with shouts of huzzah one moment, images of Frederick the Great and Nelson in mind, when suddenly a squad of Frenchmen charges in, somehow killing 3:1 thereby breaking your line-- all this while playing Euro-trash techno with unintelligible internet memes mixed in. It's a unique experience, and one no other game has given me.
