Sekiro enjoyers should play this game! Homura Hime is a very cute adventure game with gorgeous art, lovable characters and a simple but charming story when it shows itself. The gameplay is snappy, and what made me play this game was seeing a video online and thinking it looked really fun to play, and it is just as fun as it looks, if not more so, i was really impressed. There are only some minor problems here and there like some strange audio cracks in a lot of moments of the game (most noticeable in chapter 3). Also from my experience the ranking on battles/missions seems to be a bit unbalanced because if you're constantly making use of all the cool skills and powers the game gives you, you're actually punished for doing so because these things don't result in as many points as just hitting enemies a lot of times with basic attacks so you're actually motivated to limit yourself to get better rankings, which is strange for a game with so many cool powers to unlock. Overall the game is incredibly fun at a low price-point and is completely worthy of your time if you like parry-focused games and/or, the most important, cute girls.

havent played much yet but seems pretty cool. i wanted to write this because one of the top reviews is a negative one that says "this game sucks because enemies attack you while youre comboing an enemy unlike in dmc" well guess what buddy in dmc when enemies attack you they dont flash red, and you dont have a broken spammable parry either. please play other character action games like metal gear rising and ninja gaiden 2 if you think these games are about doing "combos" its EMBARRASSING how stupid gamers are nowadays man. just parry and dodge the telegraphed attacks instead of doing useless combos buddy.

tldr Great game with some minor issues, if you want to try a 10-12hr Anime ARPG with some of bullet hell mechanics then this is for you. Good + Flashy fast paced combat which requires you to engage with enemy mechanics. + The boss fights are definitely deserving of the spectacle fighter tag. + Fun bosses and enemies that have varied attack patterns. + Dodges and parries feel great to do. + Decent amount of skills to vary your combos. + When the platforming segments are done well, it feels nice to zoom through. + The illustrated cutscenes are well done. + For the dialogue that are voiced, the voice actors performed well. + Decent cel-shaded anime designs and good environments. + The music and ambient sounds fit + Used Dualshock4 Controller, game detected it just fine and works great with the correct glyphs. Cons - The story is nothing spectacular. While I thought it was okay, people who are not into anime plots will not like it. - If you're playing strictly for the gameplay and don't care about the story, you'll be continually interrupted. - When there's a lot of enemies with some that have barriers, it's more difficult to focus target them to break it. - For the last 1/3 of the game you're doing the same bosses and levels with just a few new mechanics. - The platforming can be a bit annoying to do at certain points. Issues - FPS drops at certain parts, but not to the point of unplayable. Check your specs before buying. (I have a 2070 super/Ryzen 7 5800x/32GB Ram) - Audio/Sound/BGM cutting off at random times, notably started occurring after the 2nd stage and then later. - At 2 points of the game I glitched Homura to be invisible and a death or cutscene trigger fixed it. - There are a few typos in the script, notably once during a serious moment and another at the post game letter in the temple. - Pretty sure they'll fix it or did it already, but some of the Steam Achievements are bugged because I definitely did them like the parry ones. Weeb + Hype Ass anime fight with vocal track during the final boss. Conclusion I've waited for a long time since the reveal trailer for this game. As someone who likes weeb games and has a tolerance for some jank, this game was great and I really wish it either continues with DLC or a sequel because they have a great baseline for combat and it'd be a shame for it to end here. Homura Hime while having some jank/polish issues is still a great time, and I look forward to what the devs will do next. p.s. This is my first review so sorry if it's bad.

I bought this game out of spite, why you may ask? Trend-hopping low effort Survivors, Balatro and Ball X Spit-likes will gain 100x more while pure, unadulterated artistry such as this, obvious indie GOTY will not get as much as a mention at the Game Awards. I will proceed to force gift this to a friend of mine who won't even play it, and make fun of me for it.
