I absolutely love this game just like I love first Huntdown. Pixel art, music, sounds, animations, voice acting, combat - everything is near perfection for my taste in this game. I don't even mind that it is rogue like, which is a style I usually don't like very much. But the gameplay is so much fun that I don't really care about dying all the time :) But yeah, be ready to die a lot, especially first several hours before you get upgrades that makes the game easier. If you like 80s movies and sidescroller retro shooters you absolutely need to try this! And while you are at it give first Huntdown a try as well ;) Easy 9/10 for me. Can't wait for more!

The only bad reviews are the ones not liking that it's a roguelike, when it clearly says it's a roguelike lol. This takes the concept implied in the first game and refines it into actual gameplay. The roguelike elements are pretty satisfying, especially when you get on a roll and end up with exploding bullets, obliterating everything that comes on screen. Really fun take on the roguelike and prefect combination with the huntdown gameplay. Don't mind the haters, give it a spin.

Early access roguelite? Really? Do you have to? But if anyone has bought themselves the benefit of doubt, it's Easy Trigger Games after the masterpiece that was Huntdown in 2020. I liked roguelites once upon a time, I still do when they're done well, it's just the mechanism (it's not really a genre) has gotten stale. So many of them, everyone's just stuffing roguelite progression in their games to give them more hours and it's hurting a lot of games that might have been better off otherwise. But at least here, so far anyway, the roguelike mechanics are pretty basic. There's an in-run currency for new weapons and other stuff, then one for permanent body upgrades back at the base, and one for permanent gameplay upgrades (eg. retain more money on death) back at the base, and that's about it. This is good. Reminds me of Dead Cells a bit, or at least Dead Cells a long time ago back when it was much more simple. Roguelites lose me when they get overly complex. I want to spend most of my time playing the game, not plucking through menus. You also start each run with random weapons, which is something that needs tweaking I think. Start with a pistol and you're gonna have a tough go of it. But start with a grenade launcher and it's party time, chunks everywhere. Maybe there's a way to buy an upgrade to give yourself your preferred starting weapons, or buy yourself a reroll, and if not there should be. At this point when I start with a pistol I just quit and start over for something else. So if there's something in your game that has people go out to the title screen to avoid, that should be fixed. Having roguelite progression you're also playing the same level over and over at the start, so I'd like to talk about the art in more detail but I've only been to the first few levels at this point and I don't know how many there are total. But the pixel art does look great, especially the lighting. Amazing lighting, everything has a colored glow from its usually neon light source, and those big building-side neon signs cast a glow that cover the entire area. Gorgeous! I do like it quite a bit, it's the same top tier run & gun action from the first Huntdown, but with a pretty compelling upgrade system that has pulled me in for "one more run" as often as I could manage tonight. I think I'll play it a lot over the weekend then put it away for a few months and let it cook. Whether or not it ends up on that 10/10 top shelf like the first Huntdown, time will tell. But it's off to a very good start.

I’ve walked these streets longer than the corporations have pretended to own them, so when someone handed me a copy of Huntdown Overtime, I figured it’d be the usual propaganda: “Look at our brave contractors cleaning up the city! Look how efficiently they explode!” But no. This one’s honest. Brutally, accidentally honest. You start the game as some poor soul hired to “restore order,” which is corporate language for “do the jobs we’re too scared or too underfunded to handle.” You’re tossed into alleys full of biker gangs, malfunctioning robots, and people who think a trash can lid counts as armour. And you know what? It feels familiar. Too familiar. The bosses are loud, unstable, and convinced they’re important — which makes them indistinguishable from every executive I’ve ever met. They shout, they posture, they throw explosives around like they’re handing out business cards. It’s comforting, in a traumatic sort of way. The city itself? A masterpiece of decay. Every neon sign flickers like it’s trying to resign. Every rooftop looks like it’s one strong breeze away from becoming a lawsuit. It’s the kind of place where hope goes to smoke behind a dumpster. And the overtime? Of course there’s overtime. There’s always overtime. The corporations call it “heroic effort.” I call it “Tuesday.” But I’ll give the game this: It understands the truth. The streets don’t need saving. They need someone stubborn enough to keep walking them, even when the pay’s late and the bullets are early. 9/10 — would recommend. Not because it’s fun, but because it’s accurate.
