Edit: Since a lot of people are commenting with the question: No, you can't play co-op with someone who has the original release of the game. Save importing might work - nothing about the format of those files has actually changed - but you'd be on your own in trying that at your own risk. Just so you understand what you're getting: This isn't a remaster or a port to a new engine. This is a rerelease of the original game with a patch. The patch fixes some bugs and adds some QOL along with (poorly/lazily) upscaled textures. Most importantly, the online co-op is back (through EGS) though as far as can be determined, it is not crossplay between platforms. It is still fundamentally the same game on the same engine with most of the same (minor) jank. It includes all of the original deluxe edition/pre-order DLC stuff in the rerelease. As for new stuff: * There's a camera lock-on for ranged attacks and abilities (melee still handles the same even if locked on.) * The UI is updated to show full ally stats as well as giving consumables their own panel. There's also a different panel for KBM players. You must make sure all controllers are unplugged or you'll only get the controller interface, though. The actual keybinds will still work fine, but it may be confusing. * There's a proper Borderless mode. * You can hotswap between characters when solo so you can actually equip and upgrade them in the middle of a level. * Even when not directly controlling those characters, they will open up character-specific sealed areas so you don't have to replay the level three times just to get them even if you don't want to swap characters. * The visuals are very slightly cleaned up besides the texture upscaling and there looks like a slight change to the built-in tonemapping to give things a little more vibrancy. It's extremely subtle, though. Very hard to notice unless you're doing direct comparisons. That's it, really. The game itself is still a solid 7/10 and worth playing if you're in the mood for a Snowblind action RPG that isn't quite as good as Return to Arms. For existing owners, you'll have to use your best judgment on whether it's worth another 20USD.

Since January 2015: 60 hours, five different playthroughs, various companions — including my childhood best friend, my own brother, and my ex-girlfriend. It is a game I find myself thinking back to at least once a year for the past 11 years. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Middle-earth Enterprises and Aspyr Media for the opportunity to finally pay respect for something so significant in my life with my own adult's money. I really want a PC re-release of the 2002 "Fellowship of the Ring" game, "War of the Ring" RTS from 2003, "The Battle for Middle-earth" trilogy, "The Two Towers"(!) and "The Return of the King" video games from 2002-2003.

Peak is back, gaming is saved! Also they genuinely made the game a lot better. Like, even if you’ve played the original the QOL upgrades here are easily worth the buy if you’re a War in the North shill like me. BIG recommendation from me. (Also, slight update after some more testing: works amazing on Deck! Max settings and everything without a hitch!) Edit: For those of you in the comments asking about improvements: Swapping characters at any time in game (completely changes the flow of gameplay, even if you don’t swap mid combat like you are allowed to. You need to balance consumables between characters now which makes it feel much more like an RPG than the original) I feel like the AI has been improved a bit. It’s far more playable in solo now than it used to be, you don’t need to babysit the other characters anymore Full leveling control of ai is huge, and again makes it feel more like an RPG. Skill trees, like someone asked about, are the same, but the control you now have over all three characters does make them feel more thorough in my opinion A few smaller things here and there. UI is better, the added lock on I don’t use but its there for those who want to which is nice, and I feel like they fixed the jank with the critical moves in combat. If you didn’t like the original, I’m not sure how much this version will do for you, but if you’re interested in it, it’s easily the best money I’ve spent on a game thus far this year.

This Is How You Bring Classic Games Back Honestly, I’m just really happy to see The Lord of the Rings: War in the North available again. This is exactly what I want to see more of in gaming. Games shouldn’t disappear and become impossible to play unless you’re willing to hunt down an old copy or pay ridiculous prices on the secondary market. War in the North is a fantastic Lord of the Rings game and one that deserved to be accessible again. The co-op, the combat, the three playable characters, and the whole idea of experiencing a different side of the War of the Ring still make this one of the most underrated LOTR games out there. It’s an adventure that a lot of people missed the first time around, and now they finally have a chance to experience it. I really hope we see more delisted games come back like this. Give people a legitimate way to buy and play these games again instead of letting them disappear forever. This is a fantastic step in the right direction, and I’m genuinely glad War in the North is accessible again. Welcome Back to Middle-earth [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43890595/] 🎅Would Appreciate If You Follow My Curator Page🎅 Would mean a lot if you supported me there, would help me create more quality reviews.

Sharper image quality, easier to use a controller and quality of life improvements make this an easy buy for me. It's easier to manage inventory and skills for yourself and your companions, all DLC items are included and gameplay is still gory fun.
