Imperivm is a strategy classic with a personality all of its own. What makes it so enjoyable is the focus on commanding armies and conquering territory. Recruiting troops, choosing where to strike and leading your forces into battle gives the game a great sense of momentum. It captures the excitement of being a commander and makes a successful conquest feel genuinely rewarding. The heroes are a particular highlight. Their abilities and influence on the troops under their command add another layer to battles and make them an important part of your strategy. Together with the seven civilizations and their different armies, they give you plenty of room to experiment and find an approach you enjoy. The historical battles give the game even more character. Leading famous commanders and taking part in conflicts involving Rome and its rivals is a fantastic setting for this style of strategy. Everything comes together around a wonderfully engaging idea: assemble your forces, lead them well and expand your empire. The combination of military conquest, heroes and historical atmosphere gives Imperivm a distinctive appeal that makes it easy to understand why players remain so enthusiastic about it. A thoroughly enjoyable game for anyone who loves ancient history and real-time strategy. Highly recommended.
This game brought me right back to those childhood afternoons in front of the PC, when repeating the same mission a thousand times didn't matter as long as you could crush Rome or give the Germans a try. It has that flavor from back when developers aimed to make a genuinely good game rather than just another game with shiny graphics. What I liked most is that it still gets straight to the point: recruit, group up, unleash heroes, and conquer, without wasting half an hour building structures. The battles feel fast-paced, and the heroes with their unique abilities add that addictive hook. It might not revolutionize the genre, but it delivers and keeps you glued to the screen.
