this game defeated me. after the final battle, while siffrin was talking to all their friends, apologizing to them and hearing their strange pity in response, i kept thinking that i would unhesitatingly stab myself and Do It Again But Right This Time. as the credits rolled, i kept thinking about his home, about colors, about his latent instability, about the way this must have damaged their family's already precarious relationships. it didn't feel right, nor earned. it's less real than the pain, less real than the compulsion to avoid this, it's not real at all. is this a bad ending? is the narrative tricking me into feeling safe? if i was in his place, i would've gone somewhere out of sight and "used the dagger." again, but right this time. he doesn't get to walk away from what he lost, he doesn't get to be forgiven, he shouldn't NEED to be forgiven. again. it took me a week to realize that i wouldn't have made it out of the loop, and it took me a couple more days to realize that i'm deep into the real life spiral that the loop signifies. siffrin wasn't being pitied, he was being loved. he wasn't abandoning his lost home or running away from the world's mysteries and injustices, he was living. that's just the reality of things, isn't it? the need to run and hide until you Do It Right This Time is as compulsive as it is unattainable. people like us are never free until we let go of what's been lost, until we accept that shutting everyone out in fear of harming them is itself harmful, and until we accept that being forgiven for the harm we've done is the human condition and not a failure state to be somehow transcended. this game defeated me, and taught me something meaningful. one day, lying on my back in that woodland nook and opening my eyes to see the same sky will be a distant memory. am i ready to accept that distance?

Go play this right now. It is about 30 hours but it is so unbelievably worth it. Do not look up spoilers unless you are stuck. If you do get stuck, go to the wiki and look up the act you are on and ONLY read what you have already done and what you need to do.

I have not come anywhere close to finishing this game yet (I hope), but it is astoundingly well-made. The developer clearly likes: - Undertale - Steven Universe - Fanfics - Tumblr - Re:Zero ANYWAY! I'll update more later, but hey devs!! If you're reading this, this game holds your hand WAY too much. It doesn't even give you half a second to figure out what to do. (Even thought there's nothing to figure out, the "answer" if you can call it one is obvious.) Why rob people of the satisfaction of thinking of something for themselves? Example: Hey, see these tears? They can send you back in time. - Cool This icon lets you know when you're trapped! - I figured I would already know tha- Oh no!! You're trapped! How can you POSSIBLY get in this room!! - Clearly by using the- Hey!! Didn't you see some TEARS on the way here???? Maybe you could use those to go back in time!! - ... thanks

I don't review games very often, if ever, but this one...man this one. There's more in depth reviews on the page, but I wanted to speak to the way I felt SEEN in this game. It's just so nice to have a party dynamic that is natural, the writing is so good (SO good), and it's such a joy to see the characters interact with one another. This game hurts, but it hurts so good.
