A very unique and incredibly stylish turn-based tactics game. This one sat on my wishlist for quite a while, and without a doubt, it was the visual style that drew me in. To be honest, up until I actually launched the game, I didn’t even realize it was a turn-based tactics title (with some puzzle elements mixed in) . At first, the game pushed me away a bit with its heavy tutorial and the sheer number of mechanics you have to keep in mind. But once you get past that initial hurdle, it quickly starts to click, and the systems become much easier to understand. Between battles, there’s some progression and variety, along with humorous narrative bits that fit the game’s medieval manuscript theme perfectly. Still, at its core, everything revolves around combat. There are plenty of creatures, tons of buffs, and a huge number of possible strategies. Because of that, the game is a great fit for players who enjoy building “decks,” solving tactical puzzles, and tackling situational, sometimes quite challenging fights. Unfortunately, my personal interest dropped when I got stuck on a boss fight in one of the runs and had to restart the entire progression. And honestly, I just didn’t feel like going through it all again. It’s a bit of a shame that such an interesting and stylistically bold game has so few reviews, because it definitely deserves more attention. On sale, it’s a great pick for fans of turn-based tactics.

I can understand why there are mixed reviews for this game. Some people are going to be ultra bored with it because of repetition of play and not too much diversity of play style, but I played this from a perspective of "I'm playing an artistic tactics style game" and so should you. I think what the team has created here certainly has style and playable merit. The game looks really good and I think they accomplished the design they intended to execute. The game play is pretty robust and polished, but it only scratches the surface because a lot of it is rinse and repeat. I spent about 20-22 hours on the game and was able to get through the content two to three times. I still haven't unlocked everything, so there are more mobs to play as. However, I don't think it's going to hold my attention enough to play through another time or two. Is this game worth your money? I'd say get it on sale, and give it a go when you're looking for something different. Is it for gamers looking for a deep rich tactics experience? Nope. But that's totally okay. If you're looking for a game that introduces you to tactics style play, then I think it is. I'd like to see something more in-depth and with greater story from this team (they're already working on something very different with the same style) but if you want to encourage them to make more software, then spend your bucks.

I really wanted to purchase Inkulinati, but I had some reservations before doing so. Having read many mixed reviews, I can now positively recommend it. It's a funny, quirky and irreverent game that reminded me of the times I played Age of Empires and other medieval-related games. I have always loved medieval codexes, and this is one of the quirkiest games I have played this year. The mechanics are overall simple, Player Vs Machine. I appreciate that it has a lot of tutorials, and non campaign battles for fun. If you enjoy medieval like combats with funny characters and you don't mind a certain amount of repetition and challenges, this game is a perfect fit for you.
