This is my first ever Steam review, and feel like this game truly deserves a positive one. I'd like to give my opinion after nearing 50 hours of gameplay, as I see too many reviews judging the game poorly after 2h, which is not enough to grasp this game depth and constant evolution. With that being said, let's move to the review ! THE FEEL It truly makes you feel in control of a mech. You're no longer in your couch or gaming chair; join a lobby, and all of the sudden you become the soul of a heavy war machine. Every decision is impactful; your loadout choice, the strategy you’re choosing, the coordination with your team. It will all decide the fate of the mission. One of the most immersive VR experiences I had ! CONTENT - 6 different mechs with unique abilities, divided in 3 weight class: Light, Medium and Heavy. - 11 unique weapons (amongst which a shield, and artillery locked to Heavy class) - 16 Augments, modifiers to boost stats of your mech - Camo making tool, to paint your mech to your taste - 20 maps, amongst which 12 are community made - 5 gamemodes: Conquest, DM, TDM, Uplink (Search & Destroy), and Gungame. (PS: a COOP mode is currently in dev !) CONTROLS & MECHANICS I will not go over all mechanics, but rather give a rough impression of them: The controls in the all physical cockpit feel very intuitive. While it’s finicky to land shots at first, the aiming is basically a “point and shoot” making it very natural to use. Every button and switch has a purpose, requiring physical interaction to be activated. Even menus are integrated as tablets in-game, completing the immersion. The mechanics are a perfect blend of simulation and arcade gameplay. Fire weapons and using special abilities is consuming MASS, which can be found dropped across the battlefield, or given by a Reinforcer. Batteries can be found as well, powering your Repair Drones, used to heal the damaged sectors of your mech. This leads to an important gestion of the resources in your own mech, as well as your team overall. (Oh and for the love of the Spirit of the Machine; please use the ping function to help you teammates!) THE COMMUNITY The community is very friendly, with veterans willing to help any player in need of advices. I truly recommend joining the official Discord server, with competitions and faction wars being held by the members. You may also join a clan or form your own with fellow pilots there. Additional community-made lore as well as guides to mod your own maps are also present. The dev team is often around to hear opinions of the community, and conducting playtests almost all Friday nights. CONCLUSION I had this game since 2023, right after they had a rooster of 3 basic mechs, and a few weapons. The game has grown very well over the years, leading to an excellent gameplay where loadout knowledge, skillful aiming, abilities and daring attitude are rewarded. But out of all skills, teamwork is the one that decides a good match from a great one, with victory at last. (And even then, even if my team lost; if there has been communication, teamwork and those tense battles, it just feels great.) This is what I love with this game If you’re hesitant, step in the cockpit. Give it a go. The Rebellion awaits; will you fight or surrender to the iron rain of the Empire? We’re looking forward to see you on the battlefield, pilot. Oh also, did I mention the Heavy class has a coffee machine in the cockpit?
You love Armored Core and Mech Warrior and want to feel like your in the machine? This is the game for you! I've been having a crazy itch about wearing my meta quest and playing a mech game and now its here. The game is lots of fun, I wish they had more content but honestly its a good amount. Maybe we can get a single player?
There's a bit of a learning rollercoaster with this game right now. It's fun at first—the easy AI difficulty feels about right, and the mech movement is the best I've played. Then you join an online match and get destroyed. Even when trying to host your own game and play against AI, someone joins and destroys you. On the verge of giving up and posting a bad review, you decide to search online, find a guide explaining all the mechs and features, and give it another go. With some more effort, the normal AI difficulty becomes relatively easy. You realize there are massive differences in gameplay with each of the mechs, and you still get destroyed online... sometimes... other times :) The mech interior detail on PC is awesome. Seriously, take a moment just to sit back and marvel. You can tell there is a lot of passion going into this project. The VR controls are frustrating at times—I still miss switches or levers in the heat of battle, but I've gotten a little better. The 2D explosions are a bit jarring and immersion-breaking too. If you like mech combat at all, I'd say buy it. If you're on the fence, keep a close eye on it... the devs are posting frequent updates, addressing issues, and improving the game in ways that will make it much more fun for those just starting out.
Full disclosure: This game is NOT at all like MechWarrior Online as some have said. I mean, I guess it is in the sense that there are mechs, but that is about it. They move faster, the light mechs can borderline fly, and there is no "Lock On" function. If you have played World of Mechs and want a graphically improved, borderline simulator version of that game where instead of visual aiming you have to actually grab the joysticks and control it? This is the perfect choice. The cockpit feels alive with all of the different buttons and moving features. The boot up sequence can be a bit wonky, which leads laughably to a minute of casually trying to flip 4 switches and missing. The repair sequence can be a bit lengthy in respect to a smaller 8v8 scenario. But overall? Any mech player will enjoy this experience. It is the perfect game for any mech fan out there who wants to casually load up and scrap in a simulation environment with a more Arcade feel and specific mech class abilities. 4/5 only because I couldn't sit like a fat kid at the back of the map feeding off of friendly lock on's and chucking LRMs until the screams stopped.
